About this list:
Music absolutely sets a mood. Be it happy, sexy, sultry, sad, mellow, excited, dancy, sleepy. . .I almost always have music on in the background when I'm doing anything. In the car driving to work, cooking dinner, doing the dishes, painting. Saying my musical tastes were eclectic would be an understatement. Disclaimer: I realize many of my links are to You Tube, where you cannot actually purchase said songs, but I wanted you to hear them!!!

"Handlebars" by the Flobots
First to recommend
Description
Performing at this year's BFD festival show in the SF Bay (tix only $10.35!), this song by the Flobots makes me happy. I can ride my bike with no handlebars too.

"Sour Cherry" by The Kills

I admit it. I love Gossip Girl. I'm not ashamed.
This song was in their "OMFG" ads to promote their return to the airwaves, and I fell in love with it immediately. Of course, I like the part they used in the ad best, but it's still a super fun song.

INGRID MICHAELSON: Girls and Boys
First to recommend
Description
If you're not swooning over her voice yet, you're late. Sure, her songs tend toward the depressing, but they're great.
I just saw her live last night, and she is even better stripped down, with just her clear melodic voice flying out over the crowd (plus a ukulele and guitar or piano). Not only does she sing like a nightingale, but she's adorable as all get out and even acts as a bit of a stand up comic. I want her to be my best friend. Seriously.
If you like even one of her songs and see she's performing in your area, get your tickets now. She'll be huge soon and you can say you got to see her perform for a crowd of 100 or whatever. And who doesn't like knowing about things first?
You're in for a super treat if you see her with Greg Laswell (the clown in her "The Way I Am" video, who is very talented himself). Again, he is even better when there is minimal back up to hide his sexy crooning and haunting (and yes, depressing, again) song writing. Can you tell I'm smitten?

Greg opened for Ingrid Michaelson at Slim's this year and he was awesome. Sure he's the clown in her video. Sure he dated Mandy Moore. Sure he has a song mentioning San Francisco. I enjoy him for all these reasons and more. Check him out.

Edith Piaf - La Vie En Rose - 1954

Description
Sometimes I'm quite sure I was born in the wrong era. Sometimes I'm quite sure I should be far more European than I am. Sometimes I daydream about living in Paris in the 40s. I'm going to have a very fabulous Parisian brunch some day, and this will be the background music. No reason it should only be relegated to late night bathroom beauty regimens or when I'm making coq au vin or boeuf bourgogne by myself.

Ray LaMontagne - myspace

Description
Man I love Ray. Seriously some of the best mellow, sultry, relaxy, road trip down the coast music.
Check out Trouble for a good taste.

Feist - My Moon My Man
First to recommend
Description
Another adorable little song bird, you may have heard Feist's other popular song "1 2 3 4."
Good stuff, with a video reminiscent of Ok Go's treadmill routine.

Social Distortion

Description
I've been a Social D fan for years. Best snowboarding music ever. Except maybe Pennywise or AFI. Or something else punky.

Stevie Ray Vaughan-Pride And Joy
First to recommend
Description
Does it get much better than this? I think not.
For some reason, Stevie is one of those people I always bring camping with me. Him, some ska/reggae (hello Desmond Dekker), perhaps some Creedence or Steve Miller band. . . .
