I don't know why ugobe decided that the best form a robot could take should be a baby dinosaur, but that's what they did. Of course, kids find robots cool, and kids find dinosaur cool, therefore Robot + Dinosaur = Brilliant!!!

Ugobe introduced Pleo its first Designer Life Form robotic pet at the 2006 Demo Conference. Taking a similar position to Wowwee and the Robosapien line, Ugobe decided to attack the robotic pet problem by targeting the $200 pricepoint, dropping a lot of the higher robotic functions like vision or being able to find a charging station and recharge. Instead they have designed a Super-Furby (co-founder and lead designer Caleb Chung was one of the Furby creators) favoring the user experience and creating a robotic pet that you can interact with on an emotional level, but with roughly the intelligence of a goldfish.
