There are so many problems with cotton! The cotton industry uses 52% of the world's agricultural inputs, while only producing 4% of the world's agricultural crop. It is such an energy- (and chemical-) intensive crop to produce. Hemp, on the other hand, is a fast-growing, sustainable crop that needs little or no irrigation or pesticides, produces very nutritional beneficial oils and seeds, and has a fiber that is tougher than cotton and mildew-resistant. OK, if you haven't heard of soap nuts, you totally have to check them out! They are the only TOTALLY natural laundry detergent, since they actually grow on trees (the "nuts" are really berries).
