We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions: Bruce Springsteen

First to recommend

Description

The most unlikely album to wend its way into my heart. At the time, I was not a huge Springsteen fan, and I knew Pete Seeger not one bit. But this albums is sheer, unadulterated fun. Mostly traditional songs, which you probably know regardless of how up you are on Peter Seeger. Great folk album with energy to spare.

Nothing's Shocking: Jane's Addiction

First to recommend

Description

Jane's Addiction were such a great alt-rock band. Neither Perry Farrel, nor Dave Navaro have been quite able to match what they did together here and on Ritual de lo Habitual since since. Essential track "Jane Says".

Ritual de lo Habitual: Jane's Addiction

Description

The second Jane's Addicition album saw them build on their great alt-rock songs and screaming-sung vocals to deliver a sophomore album to match their great debut. Sadly, this would be the last album from these guys as a whole.

Ghost In The Machine: The Police

First to recommend

Description

My personal favorite Police album. Has a ton of great songs, like "Spirits in the Material World" and "Invisible Sun", and of course, the mega-hit "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic". Yes, the themes are sombre at times, but it's such a great album.

Talk about an amazing debut album. "So Lonely", "Roxanne", "Can't Stand Loosing You"... All great, nay, amazingly well crafted pop songs.

Zenyatta Mondatta by The Police

2 people recommended this item

Description

"Don't Stand So Close To Me" opens this album, and it's such a standout track. I remember hearing this song for the first time live, on their last tour and I had to get this one. Great album full of amazing songs, even "De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da", which I really don't want to like, because it's so silly, but it's just too catchy not to.

Synchronicity by The Police

Description

Talk about going out with a bang. Great album full of catchy songs. "Every Breath You Take" and "King of Pain" are on here, but for me "Wrapped Around Your Finger" is the standout track. If you ever get a chance to see this song live it's so cool. It really cements just how amazing of a percussionist Stewart Copeland is.

Recovering the Satellites: Counting Crows

First to recommend

Description

Yes, you can call me corny, but I still love the second Counting Crows album. It's a great downer album, all melancholy and maudlin at times. It's filled with stories about depressed girls who can pick the winning horse, failed relationships, loosing yourself and walking away. Good for when you're not feeling all the great about the world and don't necessarily want to be uplifted.

A Boy Named Goo: Goo Goo Dolls

First to recommend

Description

In my opinion, the other overlooked Goo Goo Dolls album. This one had "Name", which became their first hit and led to their eventual down-slide into the land of prom ballads. Overall though, this album is still kickin' it, with sold rock songs through out. Ok, yes, the last song, "Slave Girl" is irredeemably stupid, but aside from that, the whole record is filled with good rock'n'roll.
