The Little Flower King by Kveta Pacovska

First to recommend

Description

Květa Pacovska was born in Prague, in 1928 and has illustrated more than sixty books and won the Hans Christian Andersen Medal in 1992.

With imaginative illustrations made from collaged paper scraps, paint and pencil drawings, this book has a real folk art feel to it although the illustrator is said to be influenced by modern artists like Paul Klee, Kandinsky and Míro.

I'm sure you'll be surprised by her illustrations of Hänsel et Gretel or Little Red Riding Hood! (via book by its cover)

L'altalena (see-saw) by Enzo Mari

First to recommend

2 people recommended this item

Description

Wonderful book of evolving, sequential illustrations involving a see-saw, some animals and what happens when you keep stacking those animals on that see-saw.

AS it is an accordion foldered boo, you can see all the evolution as a little cartoon, following that investigation about serial perception that Mari was realizing in 60’s

Julie Morstad's ABC

First to recommend

Description

This set of alphabet cards illustrated by Julie Morstad comes in a box... and tied with a ribbon.... it's adorable!

They're not your typical boring old alphabet cards -the illustrations are a little quirky and a little strange, as well as the chosen words. (via book by its cover)

Description

I can't think of anything better to go on your coffee table. Fascination with letters or not, this book it just awesome.

Essentially, it's a pop-up book with cool creative ways to show the alphabet. That's all. But, there's a video that you can watch that will convince you.
