Pothos plant

Description

Most of us have seen the Pothos with its characteristic glossy heart shaped leaves. The Pothos is great because it's really, really, hard to kill, grows fast and tolerates low light well. It's a climbing plant so you can train it using strings to add a vertical swathe of green almost anywhere.

4" Variegated Spider / Airplane Plant

First to recommend

Description

Just one spider plant can turn into dozens with a little tending- just stick the hanging baby plants and in a pot and snip them free when they've rooted. Spider plants need light and pretty much the worst thing you can do is over water them- and they survive even that for quite a while.

Rubber Tree Plant

Description

Unless the ants carry it away (see High Hopes by Sinatra) you'll never say "Whoops there goes another rubber tree plant" because these guys bounce back from almost anything. The only thing they really do need is a sunny window.

Bolivian Wandering Jew plant

First to recommend

Description

Hanging baskets of Wandering Jew are pretty easy to care for- you just need to water them when the soil is dry- if it gets really dry the plant will get a faded look to remind you. They need indirect sunlight and should be turned so they grow evenly.

Sansevieria--Snake Plant

First to recommend

2 people recommended this item

Description

The Snake Plant can live almost anywhere. It does fine in colder parts of the home like an entry and it likes to dry out between waterings. Even better, it actually LIKES to be rootbound (where all the roots grow together into a thick mass) so you don't need to re-pot it often.
