Think-ets Imagination Game

Description
This is a draw-string bag of tiny random trinkets. You can do whatever you want with them but one thing you can do that is really fun in a surreal sort of way is, take one piece out at a time and make up a story about them as you do. So you could make up a story about a tiny horse that found a gold ring and a crescent wrench and....very cool and much fun.

Hate to blow my own horn here but hey, someone's gotta do it! You can now preorder the first Red Scream Films LLC production from Amazon. I wrote and produced this baby and pretty much touched every other aspect of it from location selection to casting to props. If you are a fan of old school traditional "haunted house" films, I think you will enjoy this. If you are a fan of the newer gorier films, there's some cringe worthy moments as well.

RUF-Cinema: Drive-In Bed

Description
I loved drive-in theatres as a kid and as a young adult. Sadly, most are gone and the few that are left show the same crap that they show at the multi-plexs. How I long for the days of dusk to dawn Eurotrash splatter flicks and domestic no-budget indies. Gone the way of 42nd Street I'm afraid (oh 42nd Street is still there but its not really 42nd Street - some of you know what I mean). Anyway - this is like some mutant fusion of drive-in theatre and home entertainment with the bed replacing the car (for a change of pace!).

Now how cool is this? A 10" LCD television shaped like a fire truck! Part of the "Fantasy" line of LCDTVs offered by HANNSpree. Worse thing about it? It isn't available yet! Shame to tease us so!

COBY PMP-4320 4.2" WIDESCREEN PMP PLAYER with 20GB HDD

Description
The website says this is "coming soon - Fall 06" - but that appears to be needing some updating by their web person. I'm reading PMP as "Pimp" as in "Pimp My Ride", "Pimp My Crib" that sort of thing. This I guess "Pimps" your handheld entertainment media device. Pretty slick looking machine.

Jaman: Online Community for World Cinema
First to recommend
Description
Anyone with an interest in world and/or independent cinema needs to sign up for Jaman. It's free to sign-up and many of the films are free to download. When there's absolutely nothing playing at the mutli-plexes that I want to see (which is like all the time), when my latest selection from CineGreen hasn't arrived, and when I've already watched the latest episode of CSI and Invader Zim, this is where I turn. Seeing what other indies are doing film-wise, seeing what other cultures are doing film-wise, is always an inspiration.

Description
When most people think online DVD rental, they think NetFlix. I think Green Cine. GC is like NexFlix for people who call movies FILM and who, when we go to "see a movie" might actually say "let's go to the cinema". We go to film festivals. We like movies that are in black and white. Movies with subtitles. Movies that the average Joe Blow doesn't know exists and wouldn't even if he or she did. My wife hates anything that was made before last year, has subtitles, is black and white, has Asian women in it (let's not go in that shall we?) or does not have a cast member from Saturday Night Live as the star. Green Cine has tons of films that are all those things (except the SNL bit). If you are into world cinema, classic films, art film, movies with real characters and storylines that are not just mindless fluff, or anything that isn't paint by numbers Hollyweird fodder, you need to check out Green Cine. One word of caution however, they are based in San Francisco and that is their only distribution center as of this writing. No problems for those who are say a single mail day away, but I'm in New York. Three days three, one day for processing, and three days for a new DVD to come my way makes it tough to get your money worth - but I'm trying.

Here's how it looks like this works. You download the software and for $9.99 a month you get to download unlimited movies - except for those movies that you have to pay extra for. I'm not sure what those might be cause they only let you see a handful of the films they offer which all appear to be mainstream fodder I wouldn't bother renting. A big problem with this model is that you can only watch on your computer. You cannot burn to dvd and then watch on your television. I don't know about you, but as good as a computer monitor I have, watching movies in my basement office (which is where my computer is) is not a substitute for curling up on my living room couch and watching a film on my television. Until the VOD people "get" this, VOD will always only be a thin slice of the DVD market.
