The Republic of Tea - Rose Petal Tea
Smart (1) Funny Useful
Updated Jan 23, 2007
The "Tea for the Queen of Hearts" is a limited-edition blend that only comes out around Heart Day (because it's all rose-infused and lovey). I buy tons of it every year; one time I even sprang for the one-pound bag.

Updated Dec 7, 2006
The juxtaposition of the the words 'nose" and "heart" is weird, but just go with it. Made with lots of lovely essential oils blended into rose hydrosol, Buddha Nose Heart Spray is said to help you "feel a deep sense of calm and open your awareness to love and connectedness."

Devil's Thumb Ranch
Smart (2) Funny Useful (2)
Updated Nov 12, 2006
Ever since visiting Devil's Thumb Ranch in Tabernash, Colorado, this past September, I've been dreaming of going back sometime in the not-very-distant future. I'd never been to Colorado before and fell in love with the mountains and those wide open spaces everyone always muses about. My cabin was fantastic, a loft furnished with beautiful wooden pieces that you could tell were lovingly selected. At the spa I had a hot stone massage and facial, both of which were some of the most fabulous spa treatments I'd ever received (especially the hot stone - this is something everyone truly *must* experience at some point in his/her life). And I rode a horse and ate antelope, both first-time experiences that I found exciting, slightly scary, and ultimately wonderful.
My fantasy is to somehow be whisked away to Devil's Thumb this winter, despite the fact that I don't even ski or snowshoe: I want to go back for more hot stone and lounging by the cabin's fireplace and indulging in so much great food and wine in the restaurant and staring awestruck at the mountains and also for the wintertime sleigh rides, which sound absolutely magic.

Sycamore Mineral Springs
Smart (2) Funny Useful (1)
Updated Nov 12, 2006
I spent a few days at Sycamore Springs resort in San Luis Obispo around this time last year, which was one of the most beautifully amazing getaways of my life. Sycamore Springs is known for their mineral baths - they have lots of jacuzzi-sized outdoor tubs that are nestled into the hillside, and the water's really rich in sulfur (good for your respiratory system and your skin - in fact, after about a half-hour in the tub, all the blemishes on my chin were cleared away). I got a delicious ayurvedic facial (during which my aesthetitian poured hot oil onto my scalp - yummm...), had a chakra-balancing energy treatment, walked the labyrinth, and went on a fabulous hike up the hillside and over to the ocean (sooo gorgeous). The lodging's also divine: I had a lovely, roomy cottage with a fireplace and a back deck that included my own private spring-water hot tub, and during the evenings I'd soak in the tub while reading books and eating Dove chocolate bars. Pure heaven. I can't wait to go back again someday.

Choice Organic Earl Grey with Lavender Tea
Smart (1) Funny (1) Useful (1)
Updated Oct 26, 2006
Choice Organic Teas is probably my favorite tea company, though sadly I can never seem to find them in Whole Foods or other places where I shop for tea. Their Earl Grey with Lavender is my favorite and - like all Choice's teas - it's both organic and fair trade. Tastes like love and prettiness.

Woman's Dong Quai Tonic from Yogi Tea
Smart (1) Funny Useful (1)
Updated Oct 16, 2006
Everytime I get a facial, the aesthetician invariably informs me that the blemishes around my chin are somehow hormone-related. And while for many years I did little more than go "wow, that totally sucks" and kind of shrug my shoulders, I recently decided to try Woman's Dong Quai Tonic from Yogi Tea and see if it could help me out any. Dong Quai, considered the "queen of herbs" in traditional Chinese medicine, is said to be effective in "addressing common female hormone imbalances," according to Yogi Tea (whom I generally trust). I've been drinking the tea for about two months now and my skin has cleared up significantly. This makes me really happy. I'm going to drink it forever.

I'm a cupcake addict and can even be highly satisfied with a package of Hostess Cupcakes (actually, *especially* with - those things are damn good). I've only had a Sprinkes cupcake once, but it was a divine experience. My cupcake was red velvet, which turns your tongue bright-red. So much fun. (via seantimberlake)

Lavender Bear
Smart (2) Funny (2) Useful
Updated Sep 28, 2006
The Aromatherapy Microwaveable Lavender Bear from MindfulToys.com is probably made for little kids, but I don't care. You stick him in the microwave and he gets all warm and cozy, and the lavender, lemon balm, rosebud, hyssop, and other herbs inside release their soothing scents to make you sleep better. Kind of weird, but it totally works.

I heart Purple Haze Lavender; they do lots of great work in preserving the agricultural heritage of the Washington State valley where their organic flowers are grown. This is my favorite honey of all honeys in the world, and I wish I had a neverending supply to sweeten the 500 cups of tea I drink everyday.

Don't leave home without it. Most people are into those nice & squishy FOM pillows, but I love this neck wrap better 'cause the dried lavender stuffed inside is so good at helping soothe my flying fears.

Le Pink Boutique

Updated Aug 31, 2006
Le Pink - a beauty apothecary in Silver Lake, L.A. - is my favorite place ever to buy pretty lotions and potions and - yay - vintage candy. The all-pink-and-white shop carries lots of fabulous stuff from lesser-known beauty companies, which makes it a way more fun shopping experience than what you'll get at Sephora.

Updated Aug 30, 2006
The first time I tried this, my friend and I sat around and talked about how amazing it was for about an hour. It's so damn good, I can't really even buy it because I'll probably eat the whole container in one sitting. Sweet cream cinnamon ice cream + ooey gooey oatmeal cookie + big fat chocolate chunks = I think I'm in love.

Yes, this mos def falls into the "anti-stress" category. Sex & The City is one of the most reliable ways for me to decompress after a long, hard day clicking away at my iBook; at this point I could probably be considered a full-blown addict. I don't actually own the complete series collector's giftset, but I'm very much open to having someone buy it for me. That person could be you.

On Friday I got a Naturopathica facial at GreenBliss ecospa (sooo delicious), and afterward I picked up one of Naturopathica's Hydrolats ("residual floral waters of the steam distillation process of essential oils," in case you were wondering). It works as toner to balance your skin and remove dirt, but I mostly love it for the happy orange scent, which is so perfect for a midday pick-me-up when there's no caffeine readily available.

Elixir Tonics & Teas
Smart (4) Funny (2) Useful (3)
Updated Nov 28, 2006
I don't do yoga, but I do do Liquid Yoga. It's one of the tonics formulated by Elixir Tonics & Teas and - according to the little blurby product info thing - it was "conceived thru an enchanting blend of calming botanicals such as jujube, Chinese peony, fleece flower, longan, and Aucklandia." All I know is Liquid Yoga tastes like superdeeelish apricot heaven, and I love how Elixir serves it up all bubbly and fizzy. Also, the Elixir cafe on Melrose is one of my favorite places in all of L.A., totally Zen and secret-garden-like.
