There's a certain charm to orthopedic-type shoes, plus these ones look like something an Italian woman wears bicycling, which is essentially my only criteria for buying shoes. ($200 at zappos.com)

Not only are these basically a dressed up version of engineer boots I already own that desperately need to be replaced, but they are called "Andrea", clearly a sign from the heavens ($245 at endless.com).

These are a cheap knockoff of those Loeffler Randall Sring 2009 perforated neutral tone boots, but who cares. They're one-fifth the price, and have kicky little cowboy-style heels and harnesses...to boot. Sigh. ($160 at berkshoes.com)

Sometimes you like something, and there's no discernable reason why. These are clunky 90's throwback booties, and yet the thought of hopping in a dusty old car and driving down 66 in a short floral dress and these gives me chills. Love works in mysterious ways! ($180 at Piperlime.com)

Nothing irritates me more than knowing that some executive in a board room somewhere looked at a design and said something like, "The 18 to 34 year old female market will be all over this" and to be incapable of proving them wrong. Foiled again. These are adorable. ($299 at Zappos.com)

So.
There are certain things men will never understand.
But you know how you felt when you saw the iPhone for the first time, and even though you knew its shortcomings - and you knew you totally couldn't afford it - and you knew you actually didn't need one because you had just upgraded to a perfectly decent Blackberry - and you knew, also, that there was something inherently idiotic about the iPhone hype, and it was actually the last thing on earth you could possibly justify purchasing, but it was just IMPOSSIBLY COOL and there was no getting around it?
That's how women feel about these shoes. Ugly is so not the point.
