The Virgin Suicides (1999)

Description

I was pretty much speechless after I saw this movie = not necessarily in the blown away sense, but in the I really need to reflect sense. As you'll see in this list, I enjoy Sofia Coppola's directing skills and her integration of imagery, lessening of dialogue, and music when presenting a story. This story is extremely haunting and captivating and still leaves me pondering everytime I see it.

ACHIEVEMENT IN COSTUME DESIGN

There has been a lot of buzz about the new Sofia Coppola's movie 'Marie Antoinette'. Sofia Coppola collaborated with Antonia Fraser, author of history and novels and best known for writing biographies.

This movie is the retelling of France's iconic but ill-fated queen, Marie Antoinette. From her betrothal and marriage to Louis XVI at 15 to her reign as queen at 19 and to her beheading in 1793 at the age of 38.

Description

This film follows a teenage girl through various foster homes following the arrest of her mother who she was very close to. The theme of searching, constantly seeking and the contrasting worlds through which Astrid wanders are intriguing and thought-provoking. The exploration of the mother-daughter relationship is also shown in both unique and familiar forms lending more thought on a confusing relationship to begin with.

This film is probably my least favorite of Wes Anderson movies but it's still one that I enjoy immensely. All the characters are amusing and unique, and together, this all-star cast creates a terrificly detached family.

Description

This movie, along with all the others on the list, has the ability to get me every time I see it. One of my favorite aspects of the film, is the telling of the story from the young age viewpoint. It lends a unique (and true) slant to the story as well as a more relative view.

I just saw this movie last night and I am so glad I got to. Once again, Anderson's film strikes a chord with me. I could watch this over and over again and never get bored.

Description

The imagery alone makes this movie worth seeing. You get to see some terrific landscapes & nature that you wouldn't otherwise. Not only that, but the terrific philosophical viewpoint & acting (by Emile Hirsch) make the story behind the scenery extremely intriguing.

Description

I was introduced to this movie by a friend and it was a terrific film to see. Pondering and wandering through life's many meanings is no easy task, let alone animating it all. However, this movie got it, and they got me.
