About this list:

Did you know you can buy this stuff at Amazon.com? Well, you can (for now). Because that's where I found it (I admit to being a bit of an Amazon.com bird dog... I sniff things out and say, "look, a duck"). Enjoy.

The Ghost Map: The Story of London's Most Terrifying Epidemic--and How It Changed Science, Cities, and the Modern World

First to recommend

Description

A harrowing, well-told, terrifying tale of epidemic and science and... just a darn good read. Though it might not be for you if you have trouble with the disgusting... because much of what the book deals with is rather disgusting.

No, I mean it. Really disgusting. But really good work, too, to see just exactly what people once lived with... a nice touch of fear and shock and good good writing.

This, by the way, was a recommendation.

Blessings.

Description

Sometimes you just see a book and you know. You know. And you have to own it. As if you are being hypnotized. It's irreconcilable, whatever it is that is causing you to want this book. But you want it. You do.

You just know it.

An entire book written from the point of view of a dog? Come on, how good could it possibly be?

Besides, you know, the second-best book you've ever read.

The first, of course, being You Are a Dog.

Bless you.

What Can You Do with a Paper Bag?

First to recommend

Description

Just in case you've forgotten (or never knew) how to have fun with a paper bag, you might want to get yourself one of these books.

And just to legitimize your purchase half an ounce more, the book is a Metropolitan Museum of Art joint.

Famous Fathers and Other Stories: Pia Z. Ehrhardt

First to recommend

Description

Truly one of the best collections of short fiction I've read in an extremely long time. You know, Pia's a friend of mine, but I'd find these stories amazing and would have to recommend it even if I hated her guts.

These stories have very lovely guts.

Bless.

I can't decide if I should save my pennies or put it at the top of my Christmas list... or just wait and see if my puts it on his Christmas list (he's bound to, honestly), but it would be cool to get ourselves on of these, and the cash all goes to charity for kids, so that's ultimately very cool...

Men's Hush Puppies Amusement Slip - ons Cement

Description

Once in awhile something comes out of my mouth that makes no sense at first blush, but then becomes true almost immediately. Such as the moment just before now when I said "I need me some new Hush Puppies." Thing is, I didn't have any old Hush Puppies, but saying it out loud made me know, yep, there were Hush Puppies out there that I likely had to have.

And here they are.

I need me some new Hush Puppies.
