Mvelopes - Home Budget Software for Household, Family & Personal Money Management

First to recommend

2 people recommended this item

Description

I have to give Mvelopes credit for helping me finally get a handle on my money. Once I got past the "I'm old enough to know how to do this" and on to the "But I'm not doing it!!!" truthful assessment of my finances, I was ready to go all the way back to my grandmother's way of handling money in the Depression. Back in the day, before ATM's and easy banking, people would cash their checks and sort the money into envelopes - one for the rent, one for the groceries, etc. And, when the envelope was empty... they either had to make a hard decision to do with out or to take money from another envelope. It sounded good, but in these days of electronic everything, I knew I'd never stick to just using cash.

Then I found Mvelopes... the only money management software I've ever tried that actually lets you budget the money on the FRONT end instead of just showing you in great detail how badly you blew your budget after the fact. It is an electronic version of the old fashioned envelopes system, you set up your Mvelopes (represented onscreen by little envelope icons) that represent how you want to spend your money before you spend it. Mvelopes works with your bank and credit cards to automatically import your transactions and keep up with your spending as it happens, so there is very little if any manual data entry.

In the 2 years that I've been using Mvelopes, I'm done far more than saved the 10% that they say they'll help you find - I've completely turned my finances around and feel in control of my money for the first time in my life. My budget has envelopes for things that would always take me by surprise before - birthdays, one time payments, etc. Now I'm ready.

And, I also have to add that the support staff at Mvelopes has been among the best I've ever experienced.

It's all well worth the small monthly fee - I know I've recouped that fee many times over thanks to this great program. I recommend it to everyone and have several friends who use it now, too.

Real-time Tracking of Every Deal of the Day on the Web

First to recommend

Description

Deal of the Day Tracker is a site aggregator that compiles all of those sites that offer one incredible deal of the day on one item. You know the ones - the almost too good to be true prices on a limited quantity of one item, so that when it's gone, it's really gone.

Who knows- you might even find something you discovered on ThisNext!

DODTracker is also a great little snapshop of consumerism - it never ceases to amaze me what people will buy if the price is low enough!

A great site for bargain hunters.

Pandora Radio - Listen to Free Internet Radio, Find New Music

12 people recommended this item

Description

I love Pandora - you tell it what you like and it finds other artists/songs that other people have recommended who like the same song you like.... It's a great way to find new music. And, did I mention it is FREE?? Great for work or when you don't want to get into your own music collection. They make the recommendations from what they call "The Music Genome Project".

Definitely worth checking out.

Google Mobile

Description

If you haven't checked out the services available from Google mobile to make your life easier, check them out now.
You don't even have to have internet browsing capabilities on your phone - my 2 favorites of the Google Mobile services work using your text messaging or voice capabilities. Here are some of the things you can do:

Google SMS - get quick information via text from google sms. You can get info about weather, directions, phone numbers, news, and it's all through text messaging

Goog 411 - uses voice to find business listings on the go

Google Search, Google Maps, Picasa Mobile, GMail for Mobile are some of the other services Google has fine tuned for mobile users.

Audible.com

Description

Audible.com is a great resource for "books on tape" (for lack of a better term). I use Audible mostly for business and non-fiction books as they don't require much imagination. For fiction books, I tend to read them as I like to use my imagination while I read. Audible has plans that start at $9.95 on up to $22.95. Audible is actually a good deal when you consider you might pay over $20.00 for a new book at a traditional brick and mortar store, when you can actually get the book from Audible for around $15.00.
