The Church of Baseball - a list by hanahula

About this list:
My favorite baseball movie isn't even about professional baseball, but about a minor league team known as the Durham Bulls. Perhaps you have seen "Bull Durham". If so, you will recognize the phrase I stole for this list. If not, you may already know how many unspoken rules and rituals and prayers exist for and about all levels of baseball, from T-ball to the bush leagues to farm teams to the "Show". It is, in its own inimitable fashion, a religion.
Qualifications:
I have my very own pink glove.
Bull Durham (20th Anniversary Edition) with Kevin Costner, Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins

Description
I saw this movie long before I ever got to see the Durham Bulls play a game. I'll just say this: there really is a bull in the outfield.

A League of Their Own

Description
An embellishment of a true story, this movie makes you wonder why women don't yet really have a baseball league of their own. We know they can play and, as someone said in another film, "if you build it he will come."

Of course, there is Robert Redford. And then there is Robert Redford playing baseball. And then there is Robert Redford as an underdog playing baseball. What more can I say ? :-D

Description
I vividly remember my Dad cringing at the language in this movie when he took my sister and I to see it in the movie theatre. Not that we hadn't heard those words before, but I don't think he wanted to be the one responsible for us hearing them. In the end, the language is just a part of the scenery and Tatum O'Neal steals the show as the coolest twelve-year-old girl with a wicked pitching arm on one side and a big chip on her shoulder on the other. For anyone who has ever picked up a baseball or softball, this movie is a must-see.

Description
A long-lost team, a cornfield and broken dreams all come together to a simple but exultant conclusion in this story about an Iowa farmer who sacrifices his livelihood to build a baseball field. Suspend your disbelief for just an hour or two and you will love this movie.

The final movie directed by Christopher Reeve, this animated film revolves around the unlikely character of a talking bat named "Darlin" (Whoopi Goldberg) belonging to none other than Babe Ruth. Not to be outdone by a bat, a talking ball (Rob Reiner) also plays a significant supporting role in this movie for anyone and everyone who loves the game of baseball.

New York Yankees Final Season Collage by Steiner Sports

Description
As the Yankees begin winding down their final season in their current stadium, people are guesstimating what various memorabilia will cost, i.e. a pair of seats from the old stadium, dirt the team played on, player lockers. This photo collage will not bankrupt you but it will provide you with some team history along with a commemorative photo of the soon-to-be-old stadium and a little bit of carefully preserved Yankee dirt. A great gift for the Yankee fan you know and love.

New York Mets Final Season Plaque
First to recommend
Description
Although perhaps the greatest honor for the Mets would be to win the World Series during their final season in Shea Stadium, it wouldn't be premature to purchase a commemorative plaque. For no matter what the rest of the season holds, the Mets will have to say good-bye to Shea this year.

Baltimore Orioles' Melvin Mora Jersey
First to recommend
Description
Not every MLB team makes it to October, but every team does have a Roberto Clemente Award (given annually to the player who displays the greatest combination of on-field prowess and off-field community presence) nominee. In the case of the Orioles, Melvin Mora is the philanthropist-athlete who is in the running for 2009.
