Robot Plant

They say talking to your plants will get them to respond better... But they never guessed a robotic plant that will literally respond, huh? Great!

The Peace War

Description

I am a huge sci-fi flick enthusiast, but I never got into the books because they tend to be difficult to follow. Until I read this book. I now believe when I lose track of time, I've been trapped in a bobble! Read it... Then you'll get what I mean.

Great book by Vernor Vinge (and I heard it's not his best effort either!). Easy read (3 days on vacation). (via Grenade Fishing)

Robotic "Luke Arm"

First to recommend

Description

Modeled after Luke Skywalker's robotic arm (I think we all know that scene... "Luke, I am your father...", "NO!!!!"), this invention from Dean Kamen takes us one step forward towards "the future". That cool, scary future we read in sci-fi novels.

The arm has motor control fine enough for test subjects to pluck chocolate-covered coffee beans one by one, pick up a power drill, unlock a door, and shake a hand. Six preconfigured grip settings make this possible, with names like chuck grip, key grip, and power grip. The different grips are shortcuts for the main operations humans perform daily.

It's impressive. Check out the video, which shows the different hand configurations at work. (via YouTube Luke Arm Video)

I Grobot

It is so bad, it's good. When I look at it, I feel like I'm in a time warp. A marriage of retro robot with the new version of the pet chita (was that what those things were called?). Weird, funky, and fun for $12.50

bartner ballroom dance robot

Description

Pretty cool and funny. LIfe-sized robot. Note, she doesn't have feet. So maybe it is the best dance partner for gentlemen with two left feet?

Gear Flip Alarm Clock

2 people recommended this item

Description

Very robotic looking, isn't it? I like the retro aspect, though I do wonder how much noise the number flippy things make when it chnges time. I tested a similar clock once, and every minute, you hear this "kachuk". Pretty loud. Curious about this one. (via dwilliams)

RoboMower RL850

6 people recommended this item

Description

Now this is a toy my Dad would enjoy, except for the raking. I wonder why they can't have it tow a large bag too? Maybe it's better to compose the grass... Well, robotic lawn mower. Where was this when I was a kid? That was my chore, believe it or not... My brothers? Yeah, right.

iRobot Scooba

8 people recommended this item

Description

This will be my next purchase with iRobot (also the Dirt Dog). I love my Roomba (so much I bought 3 as gifts for people), so I think I will love these other two equally. These little robotic vacuum things really work! I thought it was a gimmick at first too, but it's not. They're insanely good.
