plum blossoms

First to recommend

Description

The Plum Blossom is the flower often used in China and Southern regions of Vietnam to celebrate Chinese New Year. It is also called "friend of the cold," because unlike the Cherry Blossoms which signifies Spring, the Plum Blossoms represents beauty in winter. I'm lucky, I have three trees that are blooming right now. I cut branches to use as bouquets inside my home. They are so beautiful. (Image is of a branch flowering in my living room)

Year of the Ox Postage Stamp

Description

Great, great, great-looking stamp. I made the mistake of buying a packet of Disney stamps a few months ago. I swear to you, I was writing letters everyday just to get rid of the stamps. (Who throws away stamps???). I'm so psyched about this year's Lunar New Year stamp. It's gorgeous!

Dragon Tote Bags

Description

This year I'm determined to send out Chinese New Year gifts. It's been a goal of mine for years, and I think I may have a chance at succeeding this year. Less work on the remodeling of my house, luckily.

LOVE these dragon tote bags. 12 for $6?!? How can I resist?

Paint Your Own Fans

Description

This is a great craft project for Chinese New Year or any event. I recently went to a Chinese Event that had lots of fan dancing... Made me want to buy all the fans I can get my hands on! These are so great at $6!

Plastic Lei Flowers

First to recommend

Description

I never throw away the plastic flowers given. Seemed wasteful, so I saved my leis for years. I finally found a solution to their existence... Faux blossoms for my tree branches! It's easy to do. You can buy the leis and create your own cherry blossoms using similar shaped branches from plum or peach trees. Photo is of what I did with my lei flowers and plum branches from my yard.

Blooming Branches Wall Decals

First to recommend

Description

I recently decided that wall decals would look better as door decals. For some odd reasons, I have too many doors in my house -- one on every wall, practically. So why not change them into framed art by adding decals? Good idea, huh?

Origami Flowering Branches

First to recommend

Description

The site shows you how to make the origami flowers, which can then be applied to a branch in a hurricane. It's quite easy and beautiful. Also an inexpensive wedding centerpiece. I would use these as gift wrap toppers instead of bows. Gorgeous.

Travel Chopsticks

Description

I'm not sure I would go through the trouble, but I love the idea. I especially like the thought of having these on a ski vacation or some place without chopsticks. I need my chopsticks. I really do. A set of two would make a fun wedding gift.

Paint Your Own Chinese Bowls + Spoons Set

Description

Great arts + crafts for Chinese New Year activities or anytime. IU love the idea of having friends create keepsakes that can be used over and over again. The bowls are shaped appropriately for Asian foods, which is important.

Chinese Origami Set

Description

Chinese New Year is February 7 - Year of the Rat (not very pleasant sounding, unfortunately). I love origami, but not sure I have the patience. Better as a gift, I think.
