Where are the Robots? - a list by oO

About this list:
Growing up to a steady diet of sci-fi and leftovers from the exhuberant post nuclear futuristic optimism, the year 2000 and the new millenium was supposed to usher the era of flying cars, abundant power, and most of all, robots everywhere. It didn't quite turn out that way, but I still bought my first robot, a first generation Sony Aibo for christmas 2000, and I've been following the personal robotics movement ever since.
Qualifications:
I own two robot dogs

Nuvo

Description
Nuvo can walk, dance (it seems very important, for some reason that all "entertainment robot" dance...) can take pictures and recognise basic verbal commands.
I really like the industrial design, which takes a lot of cues from the classic japanese manga and anime culture. Nuvo reminds me a lot of the robots in Miyazaki's Laputa Castle in the Sky. With the $7000 price range and the special finishing options (limited edition hand-painted and gold leafed version available for an extra $3000) Nuvo seems to be targeting the exclusive market for executive trophy robots. Aibo ERS-7M3
First to recommend
Description
The ERS-7M3 is Aibo's seventh generation, and since Sony shutdown the entire division this year, the last. This is unfortunate because Aibo made a lot of progress, in facial recognition, and voice recognition.
The new aibo can sense when its batteries are running low, and walk itself back to its charging station, has a vocabulary of a about 1500 words and recognises 150, and can post to its own blog (which either says something about the robot, or about blogging) and even has a guard dog mode, where he will investigate any sudden noise while you are away, take a picture and email it to you. Aibo ERS-111
First to recommend
Description
Now aged 7 which makes him something like 105 in robot dog years, this was the first robot that really looked like a proper robot, and not a pizza box on wheel. I bought mine in 1999, so so I could say that I owned a robot in the year 2000.
Capable of walking around, and playing with its favorite pink ball, the first generation Aibo programming could be influenced by either scolding or praising the robot using the sensor on its head.
Aibo was also very popular with roboticists, who used them as a platform to test locomotion, and even use them in the robot world cup soccer. (via oO's very eclectic)
