Amazon: Pitching's Triple Crown Contenders - Baeball's Greatest Pitchers by Robert L. Minteer

Description

There is no dearth of statistics in the world of baseball . . . and for pitchers those stats measure nearly every aspect of their performance, from no-hitters to strike-outs to closing saves. Rookie pitcher Gio Gonzalez' stats must be pretty impressive for him to have won the attention of the Oakland Athletics, along with a potential place in the A's bullpen.

I do not have a good enough eye to distinguish a slider from a knuckle ball. Maybe because I spend more time dazzled by the many quirks and routines of those who dominate the mound. This book should give me a leg up in better understanding what makes a really good pitcher and a devastating pitch. Although I will still be curious as to what rookie pitcher Nick Green's quirks are once he takes the mound for the Los Angeles Angels.

Not quite as sweet as slipping into your own Braves uniform, but, perhaps these shades designed with the Braves in mind will keep rookie pitcher Tommy Hanson geared up until he gets that long-awaited call to the Show.

Certainly rookie catcher Ryan Hanigan won't need the amateur tips on this Playstation 2 game. But now that he is on the 2009 Cincinnati roster, he may enjoy kicking back with the latest version of this game, meanwhile gathering some inside info on Reds' rivals.

Baseball Digest Magazine by Century Sports

Description

Sports Illustrated, ESPN magazine and the sport section of your daily paper provide sneak peaks at the latest developments in baseball, but generally only at the onset of spring training or during the regular season. For year-round, in-depth and historical insight, Baseball Digest delivers the juicy goods: stats, rules, predictions, player profiles and trivia. And those who are faithful readers may already know that rookie pitcher Jeremy Hellickson now waits in the wings for the Tampa Bay Rays.

Brookstone: SportsCast Wireless Baseball Scoreboard

First to recommend

Description

This device, much like a radio, receives data wirelessly, updating every half-inning during the regular baseball season and streaming an ongoing news feed during the off-season. Battery-operated and requiring no subscription, this is a great alternative to a fan living out of the immediate region of his or her favorite team . . . and a portable, travel-friendly way to keep your head in the game. And a great gift for a rookie on the rise, i.e. right fielder Jason Heyward, anticipating his debut with the Atlanta Braves.

Rookie pitcher Derek Holland has not yet been rolled into the official Rangers roster this year, but anything could happen between now and Opening Day. In the meantime, he can dream . . . and maybe even splurge on an rough and tumble Rangers cap.

iCalShare: 2009 Kansas City Royals Schedule

Description

Rookie first baseman Eric Hosmer must be keeping his fingers, his toes and his eyes crossed right now, waiting, however patiently or not, for the chance to join the permanent roster of the Kansas City Royals. This calendar won't improve his chances, but it will provide him with a way to count down the days until the season opener on April 10, 2009.

Description

Rookie pitcher Philip Humber may not yet have his own Major League baseball card, but his name is already on the 2009 roster. That alone deserves a victory dance (or two.) And fans can start the season off right with a complete set of Twins writing paraphernalia, including notebooks, folders and memo pads. Never be afraid to show your true colors . . .
