About this list:
As a brain tumor survivor, I have some insight about what kinds of things you can do and give to someone who is facing illness or long term hospitalization. Each situation is unique, but one thing is always the same - everyone needs compassion and encouragement.

Signals - Rain Boots

2 people recommended this item
Description
I am in love with these rain boots! They say "Anyone who says sunshine brings happiness has never danced in the rain." Great gift for someone who really lives a spontaneous life, or knows how to live in present tense (no matter how bad the circumstances). Would also be a great gift for someone facing illness - might give them hope that one day they'll be dancing in the rain again!

Passing Time Purse

Description
I am in love with this purse. It has a picture of beautiful trees in the peak of their growth, full with leaves, but inside each crease is a "naked" tree during the winter. It demonstrates the way life is resilient, and no matter how bad it gets - the season will change. This is an excellent gift for someone facing long term illness.

The Physician within You
First to recommend
Description
Doctors know that they alone do not have the ability to help a patient heal. It's kinda like the saying "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink." This book has fabulous insights into how patients have and can help themselves heal.

The Spring Tree Woodburned Box

Gorgeous wooden box 8inches by 8 inches (2 inches deep). Would make a beautiful memory box gift for graduation, or for someone facing a hard time. You could fill it with some pictures, or hand written cards of encouragement to be opened on special dates.

Art is the Antidote Magnet Set
First to recommend
Description
This is an adorable gift that basically just lets someone you care about know that you're thinking of them. It's a pillbox with several artistic magnets inside that reads "Art is the antidote to what ails you." Would make an excellent gift for someone that is facing illness, or someone who is down about a breakup or lost job or whatever. Very original gift idea. It may not cure your friend, but it will cheer them up for a bit!

Weekly Organizer Pill Box with Alarm
First to recommend
Description
This weekly pill box has a dual function to help you keep on top of your medication. You can organize when you should be taking your pills, but you can also set alarms to go off when it's time to take your pills so that you never get off track again. This is great for caregivers as well as those that have medication needs.

Scramble Squares Puzzle

Description
I love this puzzle (and finally solved it!!!) If you need a hint for the balloons puzzle I will tell you this... The piece that goes in the middle has all four balloons on it, and shows four full balloons in the middle. If you need another tip, just ask me! I'll be happy to help!! This puzzle takes days to solve. It would be a great gift for someone who is ill and has a long term hospital stay in front of them.

Pink Ribbon Hair Bands at The Breast Cancer Site
First to recommend
Description
These are awesome "get the hair out of my face" bands. Great for the survivor too. I had to shave my head for brain surgery and lived in stylish hats like these for several months when I had no hair, and for several months again when my hair was growing out. They were one of my favorite gifts that anyone brought me while I was sick! The last thing you feel like doing when you're sick is worrying about your hair!
