The Infamous - Mobb Deep

First to recommend

Description

This is the classic debut album from Queensbridge rappers Mobb Deep. They haven't released anything that even remotely compares to this record since. "Shook Ones" and "Survival of the Fittest" are just a few of the gems. Production was heavily influenced by Q-Tip from Tribe Called Quest.

Little Brother: The Listening

Description

This is easily one of my top 10 favorite albums of all time. "The Listening" from North Carolina's Little Brother provides an expansion of the warm native tongues sound pioneered by A Tribe Called Quest, Slum Village, De La Soul, the Pharcyde, and similar artists. You need this for your collection.

Tical - Method Man

First to recommend

Description

This is one of the best solo releases from the Wu-Tang Clan. Meth was definitely hungry when he recorded this project; all albums since have kinda fallen flat on their face. "Bring the Pain" and "All I Need" are just a couple of the bangers on this album.

Big L - "Last Live Performance from Amsterdam"

First to recommend

Description

Rapper Big L was gunned down almost 10 years ago. He was widely known as a "rapper's rapper", credited as one of the best lyricists ever for his clever, witty rhymes and catchy rhyme scheme that is often imitated to this day. This CD is of his last live performance which was recorded in Amsterdam.

Black Milk - Popular Demand 2XCD (Includes Broken Wax Instrumentals CD)

First to recommend

Description

This is the instrumental version of Detroit producer Black Milk's "Popular Demand" album released in 2007. It's extremely solid. Black Milk's production is a breath of fresh air and helps fill the void left after J Dilla's passing.

Things Fall Apart: The Roots

4 people recommended this item

Description

This is a classic album; a timeless requirement to the record collection of hip-hop purists - you know, those of us that don't find enjoyment in snapping our fingers or doing the "soulja boy" dance. In my opinion, this is the last Roots release that truly embodies their organic, trademark sound - the jazzy stylings of ?uestlove and the smooth hypnotic rhymes of Black Though and supporting cast. With tracks like "100% Dundee", "Next Movement", "Dynamite", and of course the hit "You Got Me", this is truly an amazing album from beginning to end.

Description

This is a stupidly dope Roots album that really typifies the organic, live band sound that the world-renowned group is known for. There are so many memorable hits on this one. If you like hip-hop this is a definite must-have for your collection.

ATLiens: OutKast

3 people recommended this item

Description

It's interesting looking at Outkast's progression from typical (yet talented) to overtly eccentric. Though it doesn't have the off-center stylings of some of their more recent work, "ATLiens" is an amazing album -- a classic even. It gave us one of our first looks into the minds of Atlanta's Andre 3000 and Big Boi.

Reasonable Doubt: Jay-Z: Music

Description

It's unreasonable if you don't own this album. Personally, I'm not that much of a Jay-Z fan, but you can't deny a classic. This timeless album has hits like "Brooklyn's Finest" featuring Biggie, "Reasonable Doubt", "Friend or Foe" and others. A must have.

9th Wonder (Nas) - 'God's Stepson (DELUXE EDITION)

First to recommend

2 people recommended this item

Description

So Nas released an album a few years back called "God's Son". I didn't like it too much until NC producer 9th Wonder remixed the whole album with his own soulful beats. It appreciably upped the quality of the entire album. This Deluxe Edition also comes with the instrumentals.
