Ironman: Ghostface Killah: Music

Description

This is one of those albums that just stays in your CD player forever. Ghostface's solo debut, "Ironman" is packed with the vintage Wu sound and plenty of joints you'll find yourself listening to time and time again. I wish the Wu was still able to churn out albums like this.

The Testament 2XLP - Cormega

First to recommend

Description

This album was supposed to come out a long time ago (mid-90s) but Def Jam shelved it. I remember listening to bits and pieces of it my freshman year in college. It was finally released and it was definitely worth the wait. It has the classic rugged NY hip-hop sound to it. Features Mobb Deep and others.

Moment of Truth: Gang Starr (CD)

First to recommend

Description

Gang Starr is clearly one of hip-hop's foremost pioneers. DJ/Producer DJ Premier is still relevant today with his signature chopped-up beats. "Moment of Truth" is one of their better records. The first track "You Know My Steez" is an excellent prelude to the quality of the rest of the album.

Piece Talks 2XLP by: C.R.A.C. (Blu & Ta'Raach)

First to recommend

Description

Los Angeles' Blu and Detroit's Ta'Raach (formerly Lacks) make a really interesting pair. Both mcs are extremely talented lyricists with and this album clearly shows that off. The production is top-notch as well.

Shawn Jackson - "First of All" CD

First to recommend

Description

Tres Records is having a good year. They followed up their release of Blu and Ta'Raach's album with "First of All" from Shawn Jackson. I saw this guy perform a couple of nights ago and he was amazing...great stage presence and delivery. I purchased his album and continued to be impressed. Excellent LP with quite a few gems on it. It's a worthy purchase if you're a hip-hop purist.

Cesar Comanche - Squirrel and the Aces (CD)

Description

An album full of gems, but "The Grind" and "All Praises Due" are my personal favorites. As usual, Comanche shines lyrically throughout. Add in Median, Supastition, the stylings of Darien Brockington, and others and you've got one heavy album. (via The Lawn)

Foreign Exchange "Connected" CD

First to recommend

3 people recommended this item

Description

This is a dope album no doubt, not just because it's a sonic beauty, but also because of how it was contrived. Without ever meeting, emcee Phonte of North Carolina's Little Brother and producer Nicolay from the Netherlands, collaborated to create this gem. They conversed over IM, exchanged music files online, and created a deep, emotional record that trumps almost every big budget album released that year.

Median - Median's Relief (CD)

Description

This is the long-awaited debut release from Median and he definitely doesn't disappoint. Always smooth and thoughtful. There's quite a few gems on this one - "Rize", "How Big is Your World", "Strides"...

Little Brother - Minstrel Show (CD)

Description

Message! It's a bold move for a major label release, but it's about time someone called a spade a spade. This is a dope, relevant album that takes satirical jabs at the minstrelsy in mainstream hip-hop. A must-listen.

More dopeness from Sean Boog and Khrysis. A solid follow-up to the Away Team's '05 release. Guests include Evidence, Black Milk, and Sean Price.
