About this list:

Stop the department store madness! These gifts are hand-picked by me from places I simply adore. Most are from Northeast Ohio, so they aren't the normal fares you'll find on the web. They represent all the places I cherish most in Ohio, and trust me, I find the coolest places.

Qualifications:

Uhm, I'm from Ohio!

Jack Pine - Handblown glass pumpkins

First to recommend

Description

So, we went to this little festival called the Circleville Pumpkin Show - or so we thought it was going to be little. Located in the streets of downtown Circleville, it was one of the biggest festivals (in not biggest) I had been to. Attracted to glass, I found this booth with these phenomenal glass pumpkins. Nothing is ordinary about them.
Jack Pine makes them each year with lines and lines of people grabbing what they can. Collectors go crazy for them. he sold out this year by the second day. This photo is amazing, but it doesn't even convey the beauty. Each one is totally different and the colors are so freshly unique.
His website is under construction, but has a few more photos.

Mint Chocolate Cookie Joys

First to recommend

Description

I initially found these at a BJs in Virginia, just to find out they are made from home. This has to be one of the BEST mint and chocolate treats. Totally addictive. I swear to you right now, if you buy these, you will thank me. It's a must try.
I don't know where they may be in the country, but you can always call their retail store at 1-800-321-0444 X 124.

Warther Knives

First to recommend

Description

These knives are beautiful. The are sold in sets and separately. Ernest "Mooney" Warther, a wonderful carver, started making knives in 1902. Family carries on this practice of making knives. They grind and polish each knife by hand and are easy identifiable by the circular patterns. Wonderful wedding gift or Christmas gift.
Free sharpening for the life of the knife. These are truly exceptional.

The museum is less than an hour away. I'd highly recommend if you are ever in Ohio. He did many unbelievable carvings of trains. The Smithsonian has tried ever-so-hard to acquire them, but his family is adhering to his wishes - of his work to stay where he did it.

Chalet Debonne Vineyards 2004 Chambourcin

First to recommend

Description

My favorite winery (out of the 80) in Ohio. I'm not a wine snob, so I like what I like, but this red Chambourcin is my fave. The winery itself is so alive with rich personality yet it isn't too uppity.
