Four Thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty-Six Seconds: A Short Cut to Teenage Fanclub

First to recommend

Description

After over a year and a half away I went home a couple of months ago to make sure my house was still standing and to pick up a few things I've been missing. I think the best thing I brought back with me was this album. "The World'll Be Okay" itself would be enough, I think.

Interpol - Our Love to Admire CD

First to recommend

Description

The guys in Interpol are all about the same age as I am, and apparently grew up listening to a lot of the same bands. They could have very easily made music that was derivative and dull, but instead took those influences and created something fresh and vital.

Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga

First to recommend

Description

A lot of people are complaining about this album not being the masterpiece that 2005's "Gimme Fiction" was, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that I actually *prefer* "Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga"...

The New Pornographers - Challengers

Description

I have to admit that the first time I heard this I was a little disappointed, but with repeated listening I think it stands up to their first three albums (all of which I loved).

I love Neko Case. Her voice (and her songs) are amazing. I've been listening to this one a lot lately.

It's weird being thirtysomething. Most of the things I loved when I was a teenager are out of style now. At least Marcus Congleton and company remember the music I loved during my formative years. They've created an album that's somehow both fresh and nostalgic at the same time.

PJ Harvey - Is This Desire?

First to recommend

Description

There hasn't been a PJ Harvey album that I didn't love, but this one is often overlooked by fans and critics alike. Best for late night driving, with the volume up real loud so you can feel the bass and hear all of the many layers of voice and rhythm.

R.E.M. - Document

First to recommend

Description

I was twelve years old when this album was released. Twelve years later I was about to move to Athens, Georgia and realized I had never really given R.E.M. a fair chance. Man, was I wrong!
