Big Brain Academy

Description

In the same vein as Brain Age - this game tests your skills with a variety of timed puzzles. It isn't quite as polished as Brain Age and doesn't have handwriting or speech recognition, but makes up for this with a larger variety of puzzles.

I actually like most of these puzzles better than the Brain Age puzzles. Both games are cheap (around $20), so why not get both?

Pente Board Game

Description

Pente is a pure strategy (no luck) game where two or more players try to be the first to place 5 of their stones in a row.

I think the best part about this game is that while the rules are simple and the games are often quick (usually less than 30 minutes in my experience), gameplay is relatively complex. It fits a nice niche between the too simple (connect 4) and the hard to master (go, chess) strategy games.

Guitar Hero: Computer & Video Games (PS2)

Description

My friend Jason brought this over the other night, and we were immediately hooked. If you like classic rock, heavy metal, or alternative, the music alone almost justifies the price. My only problem was that I played so much my wrist got sore. The toy guitar controller is included with the game. (via Jason)

Description

I'm a big believer in buying quality stuff that lasts, which helps avoid clutter and time wasted replacing things that have worn out.

Kem cards are a great example of a superior, lasting product. They're easy to shuffle, nearly impossible to rip, and can even be washed in a dishwasher! (via Nate)
