Description

I'm not the biggest Nicholas Cage fan in the world, but he really clicks in this role as a well-intentioned but easily influenced ex-con who decides, along with his cop wife, to steal a baby when they can't have one of their own or adopt. Lots of funny performances by some fairly well-known actors - plus it's set very close to where I live so it's cool to see the familiar sights. Give this one a chance if you haven't seen it!

Escanaba in da Moonlight

Description

This is a hilarious movie, written by and starring Jeff Daniels, about huntin' camp in the Upper Penninsula of Michigan. He plays the "buckless yooper" who is ridiculed by his family and small town, and must get a buck before he becomes the oldest man in his family never to have shot a deer.

Now I have to warn you, if you have never heard of or have been to deer camp, you probably won't get it and won't like it. But if you're from the rural Midwest or enjoy hunting, you will get a huge kick out of this movie. Plus you'll get to enjoy the beautiful scenery of my home state. :)

One of my top 5 faves of all time - a beautiful tale about a housewife stuck in a rut (Kathy Bates) and her blossoming friendship with a lonely old woman at a nursing home. The movie is mainly flashbacks to the old woman's adolescence in a small town in rural Alabama, Whistle Stop, mixed in with Kathy Bates' character's growth brought on by the stories and friendship of the old woman. The characters, setting, humor, and even suspense are amazing! If you haven't seen this one, you definitely should.

I love Will Ferrell. LOVE. And I know it's not super cultured, or refined, but Anchorman is one of my favorite comedies ever. It got panned, but this movie makes me laugh ever. single. time. Christina Applegate is a great straight-woman, and as always Steve Carell is side-splitting hysterical. Hats off to two classic comedic actors Will Ferrell and Steve Carell for going outside their comfort zone and getting nominated for Golden Globes this year.
