Leatherman Squirt S4
First to recommend
4 people recommended this item
Description
Fits in your pocket as easily as the Leatherman Micra but most of the tools are accessible on the sides without unfolding the whole thing. Plus it comes in different colors.
Look at the model when buying as the S4 has scissor and the P4 has pliers.

Klein Tools Pocket Knife with Rosewood Handle

Description
I've owned this simple but sturdy pocket knife for years. Though I have replaced it with the fancier Leatherman Squirt S4 in my pocket, I occasionally miss the larger, solid locking blade.

Squeezebox

Description
I loved my original SliMP3, the predecesor to the squeezebox. From all accounts, Slim Devices has only made things better in the following generations. Though I passed on my SliMP3, I am seriously tempted to pick up a new Squeezebox, especially with all of the streaming Internet radio it supports in addition to listening to your MP3 collection on your Linux box.

Vornado FA1-0007-06 Zippi Desk Fan

Description
In another pick I described why the Vornado room fans are great. I recently purchased a Vornado desktop fan (the Zippi) and can now recommend it, too. It doesn't move air across the room, but aim it at yourself from just behind your keyboard and you'll feel a pleasant breeze all day long.

Vornado Air Circulator

Description
It's a fan, but if you haven't tried Voronado fans, you might not realize that these are no ordinary fans. These things move air and do it better than any "fan" you could buy.
Voronado tries to make things difficult by offering too many different models. Just pick a size/price that fits your lifestyle and you'll be happy with the results.
I also like the Voronado room heaters which run constantly and vary their power output to keep the room at a steady temperature, though I haven't used them in very cold climates.

Belkin Flip Wireless 2 Port KVM USB
First to recommend
Description
This is an excellent KVM (keyboard/video/mouse) switch if you need to switch your monitor, mouse, and keyboard back and forth between two computers. The Belkin Flip is very well designed with minimal wire mess and the wireless remote button is perfect for sitting in front of your keyboard or behind your mouse and tapping with a thumb or finger. I use the version with support for USB keyboard and mouse and love it much more than my old Linksys KVM switch. Though the display connections are VGA, you can run DVI throught them and it's working fine at 1600x1200. Some day I'll pick up a 4 port KVM switch with dual digital DVI monitor support, but those run into the hundreds of dollars currently so I'm happy for now with the Belkin Flip USB Wireless.

Description
Ubuntu 8.04 is available. Many consider this operating system to be a formidable alternative to Microsoft's operating systems. Ubuntu is a free Linux-based OS (based on Debian). Mozilla Firefox and OpenOffice are included with Ubuntu. For simplified email and calendaring, then Ubuntu's Evolution can assist. The F-spot application allows you to import and manage your digital photos from camera to computer or iPod (similar to iPhoto). Rhythmbox is Ubuntu's media player for all your music or videos (using Totem). Download to PC or Mac platform. Visit the mail-order page if you want to have the CD-install version.

TiVo Series2 Humax DRT800 DVD/DVR
First to recommend

Description
I've been a TiVo fan/evangelist since 1999 when I bought my first original style TiVo. It's impossible to watch TV programs without it. You've heard all the reasons and you know you're going to get one eventually.
If you haven't already bought your TiVo, consider a series 2 TiVo made by Humax. It has a built in DVD player which is nice (fewer remote controls, video input flipping) but the best feature is... It burns DVDs.
You not only have the ability to record your favorite shows and movies and watch them later on TiVo, you can also save them to DVD which makes them much more permanent and portable. The DVDs can be viewed on any standard DVD player.
Now go get your TiVo. It's waiting for you.

Chefmate Ice Cream Scoop
First to recommend
Description
Ice cream scoops are, in general, poorly designed. The standard half-sphere scoop tends to get the ice cream stuck in it and scoop manufacturers create all sort of devices that attempt to get it unstuck. These devices always break, if I don't break the handle itself first on the frozen ice cream.
The Chefmate ice cream scoop pictured here is unlike any other. It has a flatter scoop, a very sharp cutting edge on the front, sharp points on the sides, and a nice, solid metal construction that even I can't break or bend. Scooping even frozen ice cream is easy with the knife-like blade and getting it out of the scoop is no trouble.
My wife found this Chefmate ice cream scoop at Target, but I am unable to find this same model on any web site. You will need to look at the pictures I took of this ice cream scoop and try to find this model in a store.
