About this list:
so my friend maggie is in the middle of her 1L (for those of you fortunate enough to not know what that is, its first year of law school) and i am unemployed and shacking with my rents (read: miserable) so we decided to do a full-throttle balls-out go big or go home long weekend in LA for spring break 2k8! staying at the roosevelt, hosing teddys and katsuya, you know how we do.
Qualifications:
i'm planning it, i might as well post it.
Chinatown

Description
oooh chinatown... yet another movie my aging hippie parents tried to get me to watch for like, a few decades (also in the category: dr strangelove, godfather 2, etc etc).... i assumed it was a generational thing, like how i could never convince them to watch royal tennebaums or big lebowski... but then, i took screenwriting and i had to watch a "classic movie with an amazing script" and this was the only one i hadn't seen (hello, how about a clue that it is amazing)... i rented it, watched it, and ordered it off amazon before the movie was even finished. though its debatable, it is the quintessential LA movie in my mind, and definitely one of the top 20 of all time... so good. trust me. entourage - the complete first two seasons
7 people recommended this item
Description
For some unknown (and obviously stupid) reason I stopped watching this show after the first two seasons. Now, I'm back on the band wagon and enthusiastically following the (only somewhat) fake Hollywood career of Vincent Chase. Now, I'm midway through season 5, but these still remain my two favorite seasons.

I'm a guide book fanatic, so obviously i got the basic Fodor's Los Angeles the moment i thought i might be moving there... people can debate guide books forever, but I always buy fodor's... i think its like skin care or toilet paper, like whatever you saw your parents buying is the same kind you buy??!! either way, there are tons of specialty books depending on what you are focusing on, but this is the best general book that covers every area and neighborhood... Wallpaper City Guide: Los Angeles

Description
lets be serious here: this is not the most comprehensive or well-organized guide out there. it doesn't even have a good map in it, or even a map that shows all the locations of the places featured in the book. but it is hot. the pictures are amazing, it covers all basic areas of hipster weekend traveling: landmarks, hotels, 24 hours, urban life, architour, shopping, sports, escapes, and provides room for notes or your own addition in the back. by no means is it a complete guide or should it be, but i have bought like 8 of them anyway- they make you WANT to go places! and if there is one thing Wallpaper is an authority on, it is pretty interesting hip spots that will keep your eyes busy. so for 8 dollars, why not see what you are getting yourself into? Streetwise Los Angeles Map

Description
I bought one of these for my sister when she got into USC's Film School for a semester program... she said it saved her life. laminated and tough, you can spill, ash, bend, tear at it all you want, and it keeps on giving. when i saw it on the floor of her car, covered in foot prints and permanent markered circles for where she got off the freeway for her apt and her classes, i ordered one for myself... if there is one thing you need in the city of car culture, it is a good map! Vix Swimwear - Biarritz in Peach or Black

Description
i have big tits (natural, thankyouverymuch) and a matching ass... so finding A bikini, let alone multiple bikinis, which fit me and look good is a serious pain in that ass. I used to try on Vix bikinis and think they were too tiny for me, but then i started trying on the "plainer" ones (though trust me, there is nothing plain about this bikini when you get it on....) the tops go up to double DD, they are sold in separates (so if you are a freak of nature like me and you need a XL or D top and a M bottom, this is for you), and they look great! i got this style in black and just ordered it in Peach. the best thing about it is whether i feel fat/skinny/good/bad, this suit always fits and it always garners complements! granted, they are pretty expensive (about 80 per piece, 160 for the set) but isn't not dreading putting on your swimsuit worth about anything? Trina Turk bikini at Everything but Water

Description
I bought this bikini in the strapless style for a trip to Kauai last summer and as my cousin and i were unpacking, we pulled out the exact same suit! (and she lives in LA, land of bikinis, so that just shows you!) i love the 70s Palm Springs vibe of Trina Turk, and these bikinis fit surprisingly well - i got it in the espresso brown, but the royal blue was also adorable!
