Cheap Wine - a list by roguedesigns

About this list:
I like wine. I like to smell it, swirl it, spend money on it, drink it, check out its legs, speculate as to origin, participate in blind tastings, etc. If it's made from fermented grapes and it's not grappa, I'm all over it. The only thing that makes wine even better in my book is finding a cheap one that I like so I can buy lots and lots of it to drink all the time. Here are some old faithfuls and fun new finds.

BLACKSTONE WINERY
First to recommend
Description
My go-to cheap red wines come from the Blackstone Winery. Cab, Merlot, Pinot, sure, I'll take any of 'em. At $10 or less a bottle, I know what I'm getting, and I don't go into sticker shock with every purchase.
In my experience, the big grocery stores typically have Blackstone wines on special and that's when I stock up.

Water Wheel Vineyards - Wines - Memsie

Description
Shiraz can be a bit much, especially for a new wine drinker. Memsie mellows out those big Shiraz flavors with a splash of Cab and a drop of Malbec.
This was an impulse purchase based on price when I was out shopping for a Shiraz to bring to a Shiraz tasting party. It came home with me, and I liked it better than any of the Shiraz's I tried at the party.
It's big and fruity and one heck of a mouth full. None of those light fruits you'll find in Pinot, this is big stuff with just a hint of spice.

Description
I was very pleasantly surprised by this wine. Oddly enough, I got it on clearance at Target for less than $9 and you know what? Pretty darn good.
My sophisticated palate and I enjoyed it with cold leftover pizza AND on it's own, and we quite liked it thankyouverymuch.

Colores del Sol | Malbec from Mendoza, Argentina

Description
My first ever run in with this wine was amazing. Sure, it wasn't the first bottle we opened, but I was overwhelmed by the "bbq rib" aroma and taste and tried to run off with a bottle of my own.
By the sober light of day a few weeks later when I picked it up at BevMo for $10, I couldn't wait to crack it open.
It was completely different than what I remembered (or imagined I remembered), but it's still a solid pick.

Cellar No. 8

Description
Great article on the history of the winery from SFGate, but all you really need to know is that this is a damn decent bottle of cab (I haven't tried the other varietals yet) for right around $8. How do you beat that for casual "I might not finish the whole bottle" drinking? I pick it up at TJs but have seen it in bars and restaurants and other grocery stores as well.
