About this list:

Death is never so fun as when Dia de los Muertos rolls around. Whether you're into honoring and celebrating the lives of deceased loves ones or you merely like the iconography of the holiday, the rich aesthetics of Dia de Los Muertos make short work of Halloween traditions.

Qualifications:

I love celebrating dead people as much as the next guy.

Calacas con Verde Pendant

First to recommend

Description

This Calacas con Verde pendant plays up the folk aspects of Dia de los Muertos art so well. Recycled bottle caps are utilized as canvas for paper mache renditions of Day of the Dead iconography, all handmade so no two are exactly alike.

DIYers will appreciate this Mini Calaveras fabric by Alexander Henry. The vibrant design is going to make whatever you use it for feel like a party is about to erupt. Each skull in the pattern measures roughly 2" in height and 1.5" in width, and the fabric is made from 100% cotton.

Little Mini Vintage Tattoo Skull Necklace

First to recommend

Description

Informed by classic tattoo art and strongly reminiscent of imagery created by SF-based artist Jeremy Fish, this Little Mini Necklace takes the form and detail of a vintage skull and transforms it into pendant. The hand-painted acrylic piece is small enough at 1/2" to add a touch of inconspicuous character.

Dog/Cat/People Day of the Dead Tag

There's no reason your pets shouldn't get in on the Day of the Dead celebration. This handcut Dog/Cat/People Tag is perfectly styled for Dia de los Muertos and is, like the name suggests, equally appropriate for dogs, cats, and humans.

Dia de los Muertos Catrina Skull Earrings

First to recommend

Description

Day of the Dead-themed skull earrings provide a very common accessories application for the design sensibility, but this set takes the dangling head form to a new level. Glass beads give a nice color contrast and create a bodily form out of the earrings, and silver-plated butterflies dangling beneath give the impression of the figures floating.

Dia Del Rey Kustom Elvis Bust

First to recommend

Description

A strange and wonderful take on customized Day of the Dead tchotchkes, this Dia del Rey Kustom Elvis Bust takes a kitschy item of Americana and reinvigorates it with Dia de los Muertos styling. Dia del Rey means "Day of the King," but I have to wonder what El Vez thinks about this.

Day of the Dead Tote

First to recommend

Description

I really like the print on this tote, informed as it is by DIa de los Muertos. The cut and color kind of feminize it out of usefulness for most guys, but I can't really fault the designer for that. Vintage green lining on the interior, in addition to a zippered pocket, give the bag a nice touch of detail.

Day of the Dead Hand Soap

First to recommend

Description

It's hard to overestimate the value little details like Day of the Dead hand-poured bar soap can have when throwing a themed party or decorating your bathroom with a Dia de los Muertos slant. The three colors -- white, orange, and pink -- are scented vanilla, orange, and rose, respectively, and come in a handful of unique forms.

Dia de los Muertos Cookie-Note

First to recommend

Description

This is a pretty tidy Dia de los Muertos cookie, and you might find exploring a Mexican bakery leading up to November a little more rewarding. Still, a lime sugar cookie shaped like s skull with flowers on its head has real appeal and is more fun than scary, making it appropriate for tots.
