Moccasins. Minnetonka Moccasins, no less. Unexpectedly but wholly obsessed out of the blue with this moccasin. An anti-gladiator reflex? Perhaps. But a Great Lakes-chic look by which I'm willing to stand. To round out the look, a copy of Jim Harrison's luminous Returning to Earth and Grand Valley State University New Music Ensemble's Stephen Reich's Music for 18 Musicians as a soundtrack. Or some Prince.

OK, here's the deal. You only have permission to get black J Brands if you promise to never ever wash them unless you get mustard on them (or baby barf, which happened to mine).

Put on the tightest ones you're comfortable getting. Then buy a size smaller. This is part of the "never wash them" rigor. Trust me.
