About this list:

Kitsch (from German, pretentious trash, < dialect, kitschen, to smear, verkitschen, to make cheaply, to cheapen). One of my favorite lines about the purpose of kitschy things: "A major function of kitsch in the present century is to reassure its consumers of their status and position, hence its association with the ever-nervous middle classes." Ha

Qualifications:

I love pretentious trash.

Saint Anthony, Patron Saint of Bacon

First to recommend

Description

Sometimes- sometimes is the key word- it's kind of cool to be Catholic. Sure, there are a lot of "issues" that come with it. But at least we get resin toys to play with.

"Known for healing skin diseases and inflammations, he is often depicted with a pig because pork fat was used as a treatment with similar results. Being identified with pigs led the swine herders to take him as their patron. For this reason, he has become the Patron Saint of Bacon.

O wonderous St. Anthony, please bless me with an abundance of quality bacon and grant me the patience and timing to properly fry each glorious strip.
Amen." YesButNotYes

Most of us don't equate the Dewey Decimal system with sex (and I'd prefer not to hear from those who do). But if you're looking for action at your local library, slap one of these on your lower back and bend over to browse the X-Z card catalog. You may be surprised.

Glow-in-the-Dark Franken Berry Bobble Head

Description

Really, is there anything cooler than the combo of a bobbler, Franken Berry and glow-in-the-dark (for the WTF? factor for passers-by in a dark parking lot)? I think not.

Maude Lebowski: What do you do for recreation?
The Dude: Oh, the usual. I bowl. Drive around. The occasional acid flashback.

What can I say? I'm a bit of a freak for bobble heads. And I liked the movie.

Angus Young Action Figure

Description

Ok, there is a whole personal thing that goes along with this that I won't get into about how every year for the past decade I've found myself daydreaming about being at this concert (in the front row) when Angus gets the stomach flu. The band's manager slips out from behind the curtain and walks up to whisper something in my ear. My friends are all shocked, having no idea I know the band. I disappear only to reappear moments later onstage in thigh high boots and holding a guitar. There is also something involving a backflip that is perfectly timed to the music. But like I said, I'm not getting into that here.
