Emeril's Delmonico: A Restaurant with a Past
First to recommend
Description
I can't stand to watch him, but Emeril seriously can cook. It's important to remember his history and chops.

Description
I've never used a knife with this angle, but I can see how it would be better.

Mario Batali 6 Quart Italian Enamel on Cast Iron Essentials Pot, Persimmon
First to recommend
Description
Another reasonable alternative to Le Creuset and in another fetching color. Plus, the iron knob makes it great for high-heat baking.

Füri Rachael Ray Gusto Grip 3-Piece Knife Set

Perhaps a little style over substance, but a far cry cheaper than Wusthof or Henckels.

Description
Alton is the best. I love his quirky yet erudite explanations about food. A little science goes a long way to understanding why your dinner did or didn't turn out right. He overcomplicates a little, but it's always well-intentioned.

a cook's tour: global adventures in extreme cuisines

Description
The collateral book from his ill-fated show on the Food Network. A mere glimmering of what he would go on to become with the Travel Channel, but a good read nevertheless.

Anthony Bourdain's Les Halles Cookbook

Description
With Bourdain's (well-deserved) rise to television stardom, it's easy to forget that he actually used to cook. This is a good reference for straight-up French bistro fare.
