Seventh Generation Kitchen Trash Bags - W1730
First to recommend
Description
Just imagine the sheer numbers of plastic garbage bags used up each day. How scary! The production of plastic creates enormous amounts of waste, since plastic is produced from petroleum products. We're talking water waste, CO2 emissions, energy consumption, not to mention the immense amount of non-biodegradble plastic that then sits in the landfills. Yikes! So what are we to do? Seventh Generation is attempting to close the loop a bit by offering a recycled plastic garbage bag (65% recycled materials), which is awesome, since recycling plastics is not the easiest thing to do. The next step will be to create an affordable biodegradable trash bag (they exist, but they are definitely not affordable)!

BioBags - Compostable Biodegradable Dog Waste Bags, Poop Bags

Description
Finally, a doggie clean-up bag that will biodegrade, usually within 30-60 days. I always hated using store grocery bags for poop, it seemed like such a waste, and was doomed to last for an eternity in landfills. They are not outrageously priced, either.

Eco-friendly Coffee Mug

Description
A coffee mug made from US-grown CORN! This product proves that we can create a sustainable lifestyle by altering the way we think about the products we use. If a mug can be made from corn instead of plastic, what other sorts of products could we produce this way? Imagine how much this could help our farmers, reduce our dependency on foreign petroleum products, and reduce the non-biodegradable materials added to landfills every day. I love it!

Solar-Powered Helicopter
3 people recommended this item
Description
If we are really going to help this planet become a little greener, than we should probably be helping our children to grow up with the idea that alternative energy sources, sustainable management of resources, and efficient use of energy are all just common sense. Let them grow up with solar, and we will find ourselves in a world filled with solar. Let them grow up in a world filled with organic foods and eco-friendly products, and they will continue that trend.
So why not start by teaching your favorite youngster about solar with this solar-operated helicopter? The propeller will keep on spinning, as long as there is a light source, and you will be free of your AA batteries forever.

This shirt truly speaks for itself! Make a statement and support organic agriculture with this 100% organic cotton t-shirt for women. Why wear just any shirt when you can say something important and meaningful? I bought one and sent it to a friend in England, who is of course a tea-lover!

Mrs.Meyer's Dryer Sheets

Description
This product is a great alternative to regular dryer sheets, which traditionally may contain not only strong fragrances, but a whole host of other toxic substances, such as alpha-terpineol, camphor, pentane, chloroform, and other not-so-pleasant synthetics. These natural dryer sheets leave your clothes smelling great, soften them, and reduce static cling. It's great to know that I am not wearing clothes saturated in toxic chemicals.

SIGG Reusable Aluminum Water Bottle
First to recommend
5 people recommended this item
Description
This is the hugely talked-about SIGG bottle, Swiss-made of seamless aluminum, with a baked-on inner coating that has zero leaching and is taste- and scent-neutral. By switching to a reusable water bottle, you can help eliminate millions of plastic bottles that are doomed to exist, without biodegrading, for thousands of years in a landfill, not to mention saving valuable resources used in the production of plastics.
Additionally there have been many scares going around about the dangers of toxins leeching out of plastics and into your food or drink. Though they seem to be a bit exaggerated (there is no proven cancerous effect in humans), bisphenol-A, which is present in plastic water bottles, has been proven to be cancerous to lab rats in large doses. The claim is that the amount ingested through contact with a plastic bottle is so negligible as to have no harmful effects. Read the Urban Legends page that discusses this: http://www.snopes.com/medical/toxins/petbottles.asp
So the question remains: if there is a totally safe alternative to plastic water bottles, which we don't have to wonder about, then why not simply opt for that? Additionally, and perhaps even more importantly, since the manufacture of plastic bottles creates so much pollution (plastic is a petroleum product, after all), and creates so much non-biodegradable waste (thousands of years to decompose??!), and since we have become so un-fashionably disposable-oriented, it is time for a better solution!
And that hasn't convinced you, then dwell on the idea that at least a few of the major bottled water companies simply filter water using reverse osmosis and then sell it in bottles. Dasani is one of them. Even Wikipedia knows where their water comes from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dasani
So I think the solution is this: stainless steel reusable water bottles. No bisphenol-A. No petroleum used in the manufacture. No non-biodegradable, polluting waste. And a classy design, sturdy, built to last, resists growth of bacteria. The SIGGS reusable water bottle!
The loop-top is fabulous for attaching a carabiner and then fastening it to your bag or belt loop. Great for people on bikes, hiking, camping, or even just cruising around town. Take a SIGGs with you and forget about buying bottled water!

Five LED Dynamo-Powered Crank Hurricane Lantern
First to recommend
Description
Lately my husband and I are very into gadgets that do not require electricity or batteries to operate, so we've been checking out solar-powered and crank-powered items. I review another crank-powered lantern with lots of cool features in my Green Living list, but it is quite a bit more expensive. This lantern is simple, functional, and SUPER-BRIGHT, much brighter than you would expect from a wind-up. If all you need is light, and not all those other fancy features of the higher-end crank lanterns, than this is the one for you! It's great for emergencies (like power-outages, never have to worry about dead batteries again!), camping, to keep in the car for roadside emergencies, and travel. We love it!
This lantern has the following features:
Five super-bright LED lamps
Dynamo power is ideal for emergencies, camping, picnics
Sturdy ABS housing, shatter-resistant thermoplastic lens
Protective aluminum roll cage
Overall dimensions: 10-3/4" high x 7" diameter; Weight: 1.75 lbs.

Lily of the Desert Organic Aloe Juice (Fillet)
First to recommend
Description
OK, so we all know that aloe vera is great for sun-burned skin. Perhaps you know that Cleopatra applied aloe vera gel to her face every day to preserve her beauty. But did you know that aloe vera also has amazing healing properties when taken internally? In Japan aloe juice is very popular to drink (they usually mix it with grape juice), but not so many people here in the US realize how beneficial it can be.
What's so great about aloe vera? Aloe vera juice provides valuable polysaccharides that provide healing and anti-iflammatory properties, amino acids, folic acid, niacin, and many other vitamins. Aloe vera juice helps maintain regularity, is good for the intestinal tract, promotes healthy gums and lips (you can swish and gargle before you swallow), helps support normal muscle, joint and tissue functions, and can be applied topically for minor scrapes and irritations.
So how does it taste? Well, it's quite flavorless, just a tad tart, and this juice, which is the fillet, or inner leaf, has a very slimy, chunky gel-like consistency that's kinda cool. It's best when mixed with a juice like grape or cranberry, where it just adds a slight tartness to the existing flavor. An ancient secret to staying young and healthy, both on the inside and outside.

This is THE original Nag Champa. I know so many people who will only buy this Nag Champa, and no other brands. It is earthy, musky, with soft floral undertones and is just perfect for burning on a quiet evening when you are ready to wind down from a hectic day.
