Tom's of Maine Honeysuckle Rose Deodorant

First to recommend

Description

If you are searching for green products, you probably already know about the controversy surrounding the dangers of aluminum-containing chemicals used in anti-perspirants, which have been linked to increased danger of Alzheimer's Disease, among other problems arising from its use.

Tom's of Maine has developed this deodorant using the natural anti-bacterial properties of hops and witch hazel, as well as the benefits of chamomile and lemongrass. Body odor is not caused merely by sweating, but by bacterial growth in the damp areas produced by sweat, and so the herbs in this deodorant tackle that head-on.

I love the soft, floral scent of this deodorant, and the feeling that I am not putting my health in danger to smell good!

Eco-Friendly Corn Resin PLA Reusable Water Bottle with Carbon Filter

First to recommend

3 people recommended this item

Description

A water bottle made from CORN!! We are getting away from petroleum-based plastics, and this bottle proves it.

Finally, a drinking water bottle that makes sense on multiple levels. There are numerous environmental concerns that this bottle addresses:

1. Made from corn resin (also known as polylactic acid or PLA), unlike regular PET plastic, which is made from petroleum, this new plastic helps reduce our dependency on oil, and also helps reduce pollution produced during manufacture.

2. This bottle comes with its own carbon-based filter, unlike SIGG bottles or the like, and so it can be filled with regular tap water and you get to drink FILTERED water. Cool!

3. It can be reused up to 90 times, reducing waste, and then can be tossed guilt-free, or even recycled through special PLA recycling programs. Replacing it every so often helps eliminate the possibility of bacteria build-up in your bottle.

I just love this bottle!! Check it out!!

Aubrey Organics Lumessense Eye Creme

First to recommend

Description

If you are trying to go green, it only makes sense to think about the products you are using on your body, because whatever chemicals they may contain come into direct contact with your skin. Face and eye creams are notorious for containing numerous toxins, and so Aubrey's Lumessence Eye Cream is a refreshing change. Made of natural and organic ingredients, it is great at reducing fine lines and rejuvenating the delicate skin under the eyes.

3-LED Dynamo-Powered Crank Flashlight

First to recommend

3 people recommended this item

Description

This is another great energy-efficient gadget to have around. It will NEVER need batteries. Great for camping (ever had your flashlight batteries die in the middle of the night?), hiking, and for car and power emergencies. All you have to do is wind it for about a minute, and you get an hour and a half of light. It's that easy!

It's also lightweight and fits into a large pocket, so it won't bulk you down. Super bright and multiple brightness settings, too.

Mrs. Meyer's Laundry Detergent

First to recommend

Description

First of all, Mrs. Meyer's has some of the classiest packaging around. You can actually leave their cleaners and detergents setting out, and they add some class to any room. The bottles are somehow vintage, yet modern, simple, yet elegant, and since they have a whole range of products, you can get all of your products to match.

But looks are not why I love this product. This is a natural cleaner, free of phosphates, chlorine bleach, and other toxic and harsh chemicals. It is super-powerful: we have found it sufficient for all of laundry needs. The geranium scent is awesome, even my husband likes it. And they make a natural dryer sheet that is free of all the harsh chemicals hiding in regular dryer sheets (benzene, chloroform, toluene, etc.), and that smells equally delicious.

Burt's Bees Lip Shimmer

18 people recommended this item

Description

If you were as outraged as me at all the toxic ingredients that are turning up in lipsticks, then you will love Burt's Bees lip shimmers. They are 100% natural, and they are THE most moisturizing lip product I have ever used! They are basically made up of lip balm ingredients, with vibrant colors added, to create a lip product that you can actually apply to very chapped lips, and it will soften them and make them look great.

There are a wide range of shades available, and I really haven't found one I don't like yet.

Natural Lavender-Scented Vintage Glass Candle

First to recommend

Description

This small online boutique is called Kraptacular Krafts. The owner takes things she finds (at rummage sales, thrift stores, neighbor's basement, etc.) that other people have decided is "crap" and turns them into something beautiful. This particular item is a lavender candle in a vintage glass picked up at a rummage sale.

I love the idea of reusing things that other people no longer want. In the "reduce, reuse, recycle" mantra, reusing something is even better, energy-wise, than recycling.
