Matthew Williamson Valdese beaded dress

First to recommend

Description

if we were playing the money-is-no-object game, i'd have no objection to procuring this 'valdese' beaded dress by matthew williamson. a little flirty, but decidedly modern with an art-deco bent with the intricate beading around the neckline and contract pleated hem. pretty, pretty...

Comptoir des Cotonniers

2 people recommended this item

Description

back in the summer of 2004, i traveled to europe on the cheap. it wasn't for the experience of it, it wasn't for want of it, it was due to a very bad fiscal year for little old me, but it was one of the best trips i have ever taken for a multitude of reasons.

there was, however, one instance where i really felt the sting of not being able to procure any little trinket or piece of clothing, and that was during our last stop, in paris, where we were attending the wedding of two friends. as i walked to the monoprix to pick up some groceries for said friends, i happened upon a little store named 'comptoir des cotonniers' and it was love at first sight.

the aesthetic to my eye is something akin to marni, but more to the point a 'marni-light'. not as obvious in its quirk, but chic in every way, especially in the way that only parisian women can be.

on this past trip however, where my financial situation wasn't nearly as bleak as before, i made sure to make my way over to the nearest comptoir des cotonniers i could find, which just happened to be in milan. and so for now, my obsession has been sated - but i'm not sure for how long and the little matter of the site not offering online shopping makes me just a little bit more than sad.

i know it's been ages since i've been around, but when i found this 'parfait' dress at anthropologie, i just knew i had to make my foray back into the thisnext community with this beauty.

i rhyme, sometimes.

in any event, you can tell i'm just waiting around until spring comes rolling along, so i can don this delightful little frock.

Betsey Johnson Button Hobo

First to recommend

Description

this bag strikes me as a bit different from the usual ms. johnson aesthetic, but to me it truly doesn't matter, because it is just so utilitarian chic. rough and tumble, but sophisticated and totally functional.

you can get it for your fabulous girlfriend, for yourself.

or for me...

Superbly Efficient Anti-Perspirant & Deodorant

Description

how uncouth of me to bring up such a topic in polite company. but, we all sweat - well, girls glow, but still when it's 40°C outside, we tend to want to keep the glowing under control.

and kiehl's superbly efficient anti-perspirant & deodorant does the trick and makes it snappy. not packed with chemical scents, overpowering you with talcum or spring time rain, this stuff smells like next to nothing and works better than anything i've ever used. and the kicker? it also has the capability to make, ahem, underarm hair softer - making getting rid of it, that much simpler!

Fighting Eel Dress Egypt - Black

First to recommend

Description

"forgive me as i mention yet another dress, this time by fighting eel and this time from active endeavors. obviously, the shape and cut is utterly simple in its design and doesn't shake any boats. but the circle neckline is the kicker. it creates definition around your shoulders and creates a longer neck, which you know, makes any girl that much more fetching."

Satine Boutique Ballet Flats

Description

"...my mother taught ballet for years and years. somewhere in there i was ushered into the ballet class where i showed little talent and even less patience for the art. don't get me wrong, i love watching ballet, and i'm a bit of snob about it too because i know what to look for, but i just was not cut out for it. what i did love about ballet were certain components of the dancer's wardrobe. leg-warmers, tights, wraparound sweaters and sheer little skirts were so heavily in play that i think it was that that instilled a bit of the girl into my otherwise tougher look when i was growing up. however, what i always loved and still do, is the look of the pointe shoe.

i did not love what they did to my feet, i could do without the blisters and bleeding, but they made you look like a ballerina - instantly imbued with grace and fluidity. years later, i wouldn't dream of putting them on my feet to dance, but to put on a pair of these repetto 'bardo' ballerina flats would be like having the best of both the style of the dance and the style of the street. truly fantastic...."
