ZAGAT San Francisco Bay Area Restaurants 2009

First to recommend

Description

I lived in SF for two years, and in that time I had some of the best Vietnamese food and burritos I've ever had. I would get into arguements with friends over which spot had the best pho bo or burritos. It will be interesting to see who the Zagat guide picked. (via Amazon)

ZAGAT Chicago Restaurants 2008/09

First to recommend

Description

When I think of Chicago I think of baseball and food. Since my boyfriend's family lives there I'll probably be headed there the end of this year, which means I will have this Zagat Survey snuggly tucked between my long underwear and winter coat. (via Amazon)

The End of America: Letter of Warning to a Young Patriot

First to recommend

Description

I really want to read this book by activist and social critic Naomi Wolf who explains in very simple language how are democracy is in jeopardy at this very moment. And not from an external threat, but from what the "forefathers" of the U.S. talked about in the Declaration of Independence. A truly patriotic book for those who want to make sure life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are not compromised and remain the basic tenets of our democracy. (via Amazon)

Wind Energy Basics: A Guide to Small and Micro Wind Systems

First to recommend

Description

Last month I was doing some very superficial reading on alternative energy sources. Especially wind energy, which produces so much energy you can sell the excess to the power company! Also, some states provide government funding for home alternative energy projects. (via Lehman's)

ALLYSA TOREY More From Magnolia: Recipes from the World Famous Bakery

First to recommend

Description

Magnolia Bakery is a pretty big deal here in NYC. People stand in HUGE lines to get a taste of their cupcakes. They walk down the block and scarf them down in doorways like crack addicts. I've seen them. Now you can keep your gluttonous shame hidden and bake these tasty goodies in the privacy of their own home. (via Amazon)

The Pitchfork 500

First to recommend

Description

I'm a music fiend. I have to have it, research it, analyze it, consume it. And my musical tastes cross genres and centuries. To top it off, Pitchfork Media is my main source for learning about whats out there in the vast universe of music. So I absolutely will be purchasing this book. Its Pitchfork's list of the 500 best songs of the past three decades. Trust me, if you love music or know someone who does, this is an excellent gift! (via Wexner Center)
