About this list:

Our family has been the custodian of 5 cats and 2 dogs over 30 years, along with an assortment of fish, lizards, snakes, turtles, gerbils and probably a few species I've forgotten. Most of the products I'll have in the list are probably going to be geared to cats and dogs, but a few for some of the others might make it to the list from time to time.

This is a great idea for any dog who is affected by the heat.

I've used similar products when traveling with my golden retriever who is prone to overheating. The mat is soaked in water and the crystals inside absorb the water and provide cooling by evaporation.

The manufacturer claims that it can also provide warmth in cold places when soaked in hot water. I have no experience with that but it would be a plus. (via ppe pet supplies)

Outward Hound Quick-Release Dog Backpack - Jackets

One of the tasks my assistance dog sometimes performs for me is to carry things. After trying a number of other backpacks for my assistance dog, I settled on this one and am quite happy with it. It is sturdy, well made and has a larger capacity than some others I have tried, without being too bulky.

It allows one to remove the backpack section and replace it without undoing the whole harness. This is presumably for backpackers who want to retrieve something from the pack, reorganize it or just to give the dog a break during rest stops but have the ease of getting back on the trail with less muss & fuss.

I use the feature in similar fashion in more urban surroundings; when we're out for the day and there are times when he doesn't need to be actively carrying whatever we've loaded into the bag. (via ppe pet supplies)

I have several different Kong toys for my dog and have also used the Kong scratching toy for my cat.

I am most enamored of the dog toys because they are made of natural rubber and are very tough. My Golden Retriever can very easily destroy lesser chew toys in a matter of minutes but the Kongs have survived for years. Also, they are designed so that they can be filled with treats to give your dog a puzzle as well as just a good chew. (via amazon.com)
