the transitional home - a list by abh75
Options for This Page
About this list:
so we've bought our first house. problem is, we're decidedly modern & the house is new england colonial. you can't argue with 'good bones' so we'll make it work by combining clean vintage furniture with some traditional pieces. should be our best balancing act yet.
Qualifications:
i'm living it, right now
This is:
flocks wool pouf

Description
i've been obsessed with this wool pouf since i first saw it in '07. equally at home in a beach cottage or city flat - the chunky knit screams (quietly) to be touched & will insight conversation with everyone who perches upon it. (via theseflocks)

Architectural Pottery by Vessel

Description
a collection of this architectural pottery will be perfect in front of our painted brick fireplace. the shape speaks modern but the smooth satin glaze reminds me of a 1930's tile hearth.

Herringbone Throw
First to recommend
2 people recommended this item
Description
the herringbone pattern on this muted grey throw has a sharp, modern graphic sensibility but the fringe & fabric make it look equally good folded over a traditional rolled arm wing chair.

Hand-Embroidered Cushions

Description
the beautiful hand embroidery is quite feminine & traditional but with the clean knife-edge construction & neutral tones they'd add personality to an austere modern sofa without looking out of place.

Almidi Star Table

Description
A beautiful teal glass table. The outline of the table is iron and in the shape of a star. The star shape is inspired by Indian design. (via vivre.com)

Danish Sofa from Andrew Hollingsworth
First to recommend
Description
This danish modern sofa is sleek & lean but the tapered arm & chocolate mohair gives it a dressed-up traditional feel. Perfect for my modern-colonial.

Wallcovering by Callidus Guild for Stark
First to recommend
Description
Yolande Batteau of Callidus Guild is a genius. When I first saw her present samples of her gorgeous work, I think I stopped breathing for a moment - 100% custom & 100% breathtaking, forget hanging it on the wall - I wanted to wear it! I had thought my dreams of living in a glowing, Callidus Guild jewel box had to be put off until I made my first few million but Yolande has teamed up with Stark for a line of beautiful wallcovering more accessible to the trust-fund-challenged. Description
I love this collection of art tile by Xenia Taler for it's mix of vintage-sweet & graphic-sleek. I'll be hanging a group of them on the wall in my breakfast nook to start everyday with a smile.

Calypso Home Metallic Cowhide Pillows
First to recommend
Description
I usually cringe at the idea of using 'animal prints' in decorating. I have an acquaintance (who shall remain nameless) who lives in layers & layers of leopard (with bullion fringe mind you!!) & whose home I've literally had nightmares about. That said, I opened my mind to my inner-animal-print-lover when I saw these metallic cowhide pillows at Calypso Home. More Jackson Pollack than 'safari formal', I'd toss one on a sofa without hesitation.
