Curtis Mayfield - Curtis

Description

Curtis Mayfield (wow, I should have brought out his albums on my last long drive). Curtis Mayfield could be played any place any time--even as a James Bond Theme song, that's how expansive his sound is. my pick would be "If There's A Hell Below We're All Going To Go"

iTunes Store - U2

Description

Do you remember the U2 iPod? I plugged into that thing for 5 months, and I'm still not sure that I listened to every song. The thing I did discover about the U2 sound is that it's actually gospel music on steroids, not a bad thing at all.

Lovers Rock ~ Sade

Description

Within the realm of love, hope, devotion, and heartbreak are the three fundamental elements which effect the human hart. Sade's fragile vocals and sensual and emotive instrumentation evokes the tender qualities of love and the bittersweet elements which play upon our emotions. I've enjoyed the careful unfolding of each of Sade's albums, always believing that the newest release is better than the last, "Love's Rock" has been at the top of my Sade play list for some time. It's a beautifully mature and open collection of contemporary torch/love songs, and instant classics which are so personal in feeling that they often feel as if they were written about your life.

Description

I came across this E.P. "Book of Us". It's a new take on love songs, (they all say that) but what got me was Arianna Solare's voice. It's a very personal timber, and has that hidden fragileness that I've heard in the voice of singers like Joan Armatrading and Gladys Knight--but don't get me wrong--Arianna Solare is on a different level imagine the love child of PJ Harvey and Neil Young, but I'll let you find out for yourself... ^_^

Hejira ~ Joni Mitchell

Description

I've lived with these songs for years, I guess what I like most is how well they smooth the edges of one's personal transitions.
