Twilight Struggle

First to recommend

Description

Great two player strategy game! If you like Risk and want less luck and more strategy... or if you don't like Risk because it is too luck based, then this game is for you. For the history buffs, you can act out the Soviets vs. the US in true style. And don't be intimidated if you don't give a hoot about history, the strategy carries the game and everything is clear (even if they couple it with an historical references.)

Super Scrabble

Description

Scrabble on steroids! For all you scrabble lovers, this is your chance to make words with more letters for more points. Wonderful except it makes winning much sweeter and losing much more devastating, so make sure you have some good competition to keep it from turning brutal.

YINSH: A Board Game

Description

With a name like YINSH its got to be fun! Right? Doesn't it? I thought a YINSH was a character by Dr. Suess. It should be.

According to the website: YINSH is a tempestuous game! The players each start with 5 rings on the board. Every time a ring is moved, it leaves a marker behind. Markers are white on one side and black on the other. When markers are jumped over by a ring, they must be flipped, so their color is constantly changing. The players must try to form a row of 5 markers with their own color face up. If a player succeeds in doing so, he removes one of his rings as an indication that he has formed such a row. The first player to remove 3 of his rings wins the game. In other words, each row you make brings you closer to victory -- but also makes you weaker, because you have one less ring to play with. Very tricky!

Apples to Apples

11 people recommended this item

Description

"Apples to Apples is the wild, award-winning card and party game that provides instant fun for four to ten players! It's as easy as "comparing apples to apples"...just open the box, deal the cards, and you're ready to play! Select the card from your hand that you think is best described by a card played by the judge. If the judge picks your card, you win that round. And everyone gets a chance to be the judge! Fast moving and refreshing, Apples to Apples is perfect for any get-together with family and friends!" One warning however, if your friends are the kind of friend who think very literally, it puts a damper on the true fun of the game.

Heroscape Marvel: The Conflict Begins

First to recommend

Description

Heroscape scares non-geeks over the phone, but once you see the characters and start battling it out, you'll be planning the next game night. This is the Marvel version which is yet to be released. There are expansion packs with non Marvel characters that range from wild west men to ninjas to skeleton dogs to Nikita agents. The board is built with hex pieces so the game can always change and the designer in you can enjoy creating a hex battlefield. Very fun but block out a whole night for this one!

Dutch Blitz

Description

Easy to explain and set up, this game is fast and a lot of fun. It involves keeping an eye on tons of changing piles to try to get rid of your cards as quickly as possible. This one is addictive and although you want to play for hours, you can keep it short and still have a great time.

Description

If you like chess, checkers, and other abstract strategy games, try this game and even the whole series. It involves building stacks, moving stacks, and gaining control of the highest stacks. How do you win? Put your stacks together and then compare it to your opponents. Whoever has the highest wins. The beauty in this game is the simplicity and unique strategy. Each time you can set it up differently which keeps you on your toes and allows no two games to be alike.
