Description
Ohhhhhhh myyyyy........ I just saw several days of my life flash before me, days in which I will not see daylight, sitting in a darkened room playing this until I have to duct tape my thumbs (true story: have had to do that twice- once while doing a Grand Turismo marathon and once, bizarrely, with Bass Fisherman. I know. Go figure.).
First let me say that the actual Deadliest Catch series is one of my all-time favorites. Watching those Hanson brothers on the Bering Sea... well, many a weekend they've been my Saturday night dates. That's just how I roll. I'm uncool like that. Hell, I even added Sig as a myspace friend.
So you can imagine how every OCD gene in my body started shimmying around when I discovered I can go all interactive now- I can BE a part of the crew. This is all just too exciting and I need to go have some alone time to ponder it.

Spyker C12 Zagato

Description
Yes, please.
I will bring my own theme music and costume. Purrrr....
About the car:
"Can you imagine a luxury supercar, dressed in the finest and most exotic materials on the outside and bearing an extraordinary chassis within? One made with all the experience of a racing brand, evoking a sense of awe and mystery – much like the hidden depths of a beautiful woman’s eyes. Can you imagine the excitement when the object of beauty also reveals a rich heritage?
That, in its essence, sums up the new Spyker C12 Zagato, which espouses the bespoke philosophy in its purest form – and takes your breath away, much like an incredibly beautiful woman. Only 24 reproductions of this exquisite work of art will be made (starting March 2008), which endows the word “exclusive” with a whole new meaning and heightens the pleasure of ownership.
Its proud creators are none other than Spyker and Zagato, two of the world’s most notable automobile manufacturers. Established in 1898 and 1919 respectively, both companies played important roles in the history of motoring and aviation with their advanced and aerodynamic cars.
The birth of the Spyker C12 Zagato marks an emotional return to the years when a car was truly a one-of-a-kind creation, akin to a work of art, and created by expert artisans with little help from machines. The launch of this ultra-exclusive car also celebrates Spyker’s entry into the world of Formula One, which began with its acquisition of the Midland F1 team in September 2006.
Futuristic in design – the brainchild of Zagato’s Norihiko Harada – this coupé is considered the quintessential collector’s car and features several F1-type details: a pointy nose, chimney pot-style air scoops and rain lights. Its all-aluminum construction is reinforced with stainless steel roof rails, which enables it to strike the perfect balance between strength and lightness.
Powered by a 6.0-liter Volkswagen W12 engine, this rear-drive sports car produces 500bhp and can accelerate from 0 to 60mph (0 to 100km) in 3.8s – not bad for a car that weighs 3,197lbs (1,450kg). If one’s courage stands up to the challenge and there’s little risk of being apprehended by the authorities, the Spyker C12 Zagato can be pushed to a topspeed of 193 mph (310km/h) – though only on a very long straight.
Over and above its high-performance capability however, the Spyker C12 Zagato is a celebration of all things luxurious. This is highlighted by its full leather interior, brushed aluminum instrument panel and Chronoswiss instruments by the luxury watchmaker. As with all fine things in life, quality comes at a price. In this case, €495,000 before taxes."

Erwin Sattler Trilogie Clock

Description
I have the unsettling feeling that if left alone in a room with this clock I might touch it inappropriately.
It even has a USB port. Swoon.
About the this clock:
"German clock manufactory Erwin Sattler celebrates its fiftieth anniversary with an impressive horological creation, the extraordinary Trilogy. As one might infer from the name, this piece combines three highlights, a precise table clock with 15-day power reserve, a programmable Sattler Rotalis watch winder with USB port and as a world premiere the first Sattler wristwatch anything elegantly presented on a wooden base and protected behind an automatic opening crystal cover. This 18K gold winding mass is limited to just 150 pieces to completely raise the value of this collectors trophy."

Zoe Heels by Christian Werner

Description
If these were my feet, I would take them to the nearest hotel room.
__________________________________________________
German industrial designer Christian Werner spent the large part of his career conceptualizing and designing shoe shelves that would display shoes in the best possible light.
However, what was to be a routine shopping trip in Amsterdam on a fine day in 2006 birthed an inspiration and desire in Werner to try his hand at designing shoes.
His idea was simple enough: remove the bulk of the material in a normal wedge heel, leaving only the silhouette, since it’s the wedge’s silhouette that is responsible for the shoe’s allure.
The challenge, therefore, was to find a material that can support the weight of the wearer. Werner experimented on aluminium, first sketching out a cardboard model, and then a polished aluminium prototype, and the Zoe was born.
At six inches tall, Werner’s “hollowed out” wedge Zoe heels look like a tall order for any woman to walk in, but the open aluminium frame makes the wedges look elegant and light on the feet.
And lest you still have any lingering doubts, the leather straps that warp around your feet and ankles not only provide additional safety, they also make you feel incredibly sexy. The price for a pair of these limited edition Zoe heels? 2,500 Euros.

Tate Tracks

Description
Anyone who knows me will attest to the fact that when I get very excited about something, it's audible. Sometimes I get off easily and catch myself after the first odd yip and before the yap. Other times.... well it's akin to watching a documentary about those red-assed baboons who live in the jungle. The part where they discover something particularly delectable in the fur of their bulbous-arsed cohort and break into a simian revival of "We Go Together" from Grease? Yep. That would be me. I make a lotta noise.
So you can imagine what just happened when I discovered that one of my favorite museums of all time has just launched one of the most provocative audio experiments I have ever heard of..... I'm going apeshit.
The Tate in London has launched Tate Tracks, a foray into using art to inspire music. Basically, they asked twelve musicians and groups- Chemical Brothers, Basement Jaxx and New Young Pony Club, to name a few- to walk through the galleries and find a piece of art that moved them and then go off and rub out a track. Like art porn as foreplay. I think you see the dark alley my mind has taken this to. The yips have just turned into low moans. I looooove this concept.
On a related note, here's an interesting post from sinSign.com about it:
_______________________________________________________
London is well known for its tradition as a breeding ground for marketing innovation (the Center for Integrated Marketing comes to mind), so it is not a surprise that the Tate Modern is offering us an interesting lesson through their new Tate Tracks.
As described in Tate Modern’s website, Tate Tracks is the result of an invitation to an eclectic group of musicians to walk around the gallery and “find a piece of art that inspires them to write a track.” Collaborators include The Chemical Brothers, Graham Coxon, and Klaxons among others. The tracks reside exclusively at the Tate Modern [next to the art that provided inspiration] during their first month of life, after that they are released to the world via the internet.
Without pretending to strip this initiative from its artistic value, we might want to look at it through the eyes of the marketer, in which case we will be able to see why this is such an important marketing piece as well.
Today’s marketing and communications industry is facing many issues mainly related to a simple fact: in a world without media options, ruthless irrelevant interruption could thrive; in the present multi-media society, every piece of communication must add some value in order to be considered. This is probably the most visible consequence of an applied attention economy.
Tate Tracks, as a communications program, is a clever initiative that accomplishes various objectives through one cohesive effort: It can potentially boost visits to the Tate Modern since it offers a fresh, new reason to experience art; it also becomes an excellent tool to drive traffic to their website after the one-month exclusivity of the track in the museum expires; and it gives people around the globe a reason to refer friends to the site or write about it, associating the Tate Modern with innovation in the cluttered world of modern art.
The most important characteristic of Tate Tracks, and probably one that is essential to the new school of 21st century marketing is that the program is real. The tracks are inspired by art, leading artists to create a piece that wouldn’t exist without the Tate Modern, and therefore adding significant value to anyone that appreciates the work of the artist, musician, or both.
According to the official press release, “The Tate Tracks initiative devised by Tate Modern, in partnership with advertising agency Fallon, will be supported by a range of promotional activity designed to reach fans of each act and each music genre. The project was developed to highlight the relationship between music and visual art and the role they play in stimulating and inspiring creativity.” We would certainly welcome an annual compilation, perhaps distributed via old-fashioned compact discs.
