Plan Toys Wooden Oval Xylophone
First to recommend
Description
This Xylophone from Plan Toys is as visually vibrant as it is eco-sensitive and safe. The piece is made with chemical-free rubber wood and finished with non-toxic colors. Pounding out something resembling rhythm is, of course, fun for kids, but it also builds hand-eye coordination and a love for creative expression.

Chugga Chugga Choo Choo, by Kevin Lewis (Author) and Daniel Kirk (Illustrator)
First to recommend
Description
Although aimed at kids a little older, my daughter really started responding to this book at about six months. Slightly icy illustration is colorful and evocative for both babies and adults, but the chugging quality of the prose is really what drives this book, punctuated elegantly by the thematic "woo-woo" that rises and falls with the narrative arc of the book. A new classic.

Submarine Radio

Alien Shoes

Description
I don't want to say the fact that these shoes don't match is the best part about them, but it's a pretty rad element.

Block Wagon with 100 unit blocks.
First to recommend
Description
Infants love taking things out of, and back into, containers more than anyone beside a child psychologist will ever understand. This handsome cherry wood cart and block set offers the young child both the enjoyment of a stackable set of toys and the challenge of fitting them all back into place when finished.

Domestic Wall Vinyl Measuring Plant, by Ana Mir

A kid measuring her height against the wall is always fun, for both child and parent. But doesn't it look just a little more fun with an incredibly tall tree that doubles as room decoration? Learn the metric system while you're at it! (via swissmiss)
