Motorcycling - a list by spench

About this list:
I have this desire to put a list together. A list of everything I could ever want on a motorcycle. Sure, it might end up too heavy to pick up if I ever dropped it. And yeah, probably couldn't afford this un-liftable beastie to begin with. But I can dream!
Qualifications:
Have travelled far on 2 wheels.

This is The Machine. The Machine will take you anywhere you want to go, as long as it's on land. If The Machine can't get you there, buy a boat. Or an airplane. Let's face it, The Machine isn't cheap, but neither are boats and planes.

Description
Now that you've got The Machine, you're all set to go. Or are you? Can you just pick up and leave? Do you need to tell anyone? Do you need to bring anything with you? If so, you're going to need some place to put it. Jesse saddlebags are one of your options.

Pannier Special Set 2x 41L R1200GS, Silver Racks from Touratech-USA

In all honesty, I'm a little torn. Should Touratech or Jesse Bags go on The Machine. It's really your call. I'm putting both on The List. It's a personal choice, you're the one riding The Machine around The World.

Perhaps you will think I'm breaking with my theme. So far we have The Machine and a couple of gnarly saddlebags picked out. Now I recommend this curvy trunk for The Machine, is it going to get sissified of something? No. People out there are crazy, and you need space. Are these two concepts related? They are here. This is a big trunk for your bike that can store your spare helmet and an iPod powered stereo, and it has a built in auxiliary brake light so that the crazy drivers of The World can see You.

Tank Conversion Kit (2 x 8 Liter side tanks) R1200GS from Touratech-USA

Description
I'm in heaven now, I didn't even realize you could get side tanks for the R1200GSA until I started poking around on the Touratech site. Now The Machine can go much, much further before you have to step off it and deal with the mere mortals.

Underseat Fuel Tank R1200GS (plus 5 litres) from Touratech-USA

Touratech is brilliant. They've figured a way to squeeze even a little more mileage out of The Machine between fill ups!

Motor Guard Reinforcement R1200GS & ADV from Touratech-USA

Description
I said this was going to be a dream bike. I told you I couldn't lift it if ever it dropped. So why not add on all the protection against rocks and scorpions money can buy? If you ever were to get an R1200GSA and take it into the nether regions of this planet, you really ought to have superlative engine protection.

Waterproof Tank Bag R1200GS and Adventure from Touratech-USA
First to recommend
Description
The tank bag on a motorcycle is one of the trickiest things to buy. They're expensive, so there's that temptation to skimp a little, after all, you're not going to put anything too valuable in them anyway. Right? Since they are fabric and way to easy to steal? Well..... you still have to get a decent one, or you're out there in the middle of nowhere and your map gets wet..... Touratech will not fail you.

Personally I value the seat-of-the-pants method of exploring Unknown Territory. Pointing at a map and trying to figure out the the directions being given to you in a tongue you really should have learned before setting out on this adventure. But for everyone else, this GPS should get you there.

Therm-a-Rest ProLite 4 Sleeping Pad - Regular
First to recommend
Description
After years of carrying ridiculously heavy backpacks, I'm on the ultralight kick. Part of this was inspired by a motorcycle trip where there was so little room to pack stuff that I had to choose the lightest and smallest of almost every available item. Sleeping pads are an absolute necessity for camping out!
