I'm a self-confessed organic glamazon (in fact, that's my blogging alias) and I looooove all things beauty, but I'm also a trained makeup artist who has used practically every cosmetic brand you can think of over the years, organic & not. As a discerning makeup user I'm extremely picky about quality, efficacy and application, so it was with a wary kind of excitement that I tried the new Organic Glam makeup collection from The Organic Pharmacy. The glossy black packaging is indeed glam (though I can't help be a little disappointed that it isn't more environmentally sensitive), and the makeup... let's just say 'impressive' is a word that springs to mind. The Luminous Antioxidant Foundation has a beautiful, light creamy texture that glides on giving good coverage but not so much that your skin feels 'made-up' and the finish it leaves is not matte, and not dewy either - in fact, it's kind of perfect. The Organic Glam Creamy Lipsticks are super creamy delivering good color pigment; the eyeshadows are luminous, shimmery minerals packaged in containers that have a soft sponge wand inside for controlled application (as opposed to the standard loose pots and brushes that leave your bathroom splattered with powder)... and the entire collection is made from organic and natural ingredients using mineral colors with no nasty preservatives. The price tag is pretty hefty in the US with the foundation costing around $60 for example, but some would argue perfection is worth it. As someone who had the indescribable fortune of giving birth to twins recently (hence the slow down in posts in case anyone noticed!), I was absolutely blown away recently by some of my experiences both with doctors and nurses who blithely (and blindly) recommend products for newborn babies that contain ingredients I wouldn't put on my dog, let alone my preemie boys!! Daylesford Farm in the UK, owned by Lady Bamford and her gazillionaire property mogul husband, is a shining example of organic farming at its' finest, with a clear focus on local, sustainable and the finest quality money can buy. Not content with simply growing their own food, developing their own gourmet food lines, and setting up an uber chic but unpretentious organic cafe (frequented by the likes of Kate Moss), Lady Bamford developed a new bath, body and baby collection called simply Bamford, that is about as good as it gets in the body care realm. Call me a magpie if you must but I'm a big fan of shine & shimmer. Whether it's sequins, glitter or a simple sheen, I'm often overheard oooing and ahhhing over just about anything with luminosity.
