Vogue British Edition

Description
Oh British Vogue, how I love you. The focus is correctly on fashion and not celebrities. What a concept!! I read Vogue to find out about fashion, makeup, hair, new trends, etc. not to find out what the celebrities and socialites are up to. I have always loved the British style aesthetic to begin with. I find British style to always be just a touch edgy, cool and modern. British Vogue just gets it right! As an aside, I will not read American Vogue anymore. I first decided to boycott after they put Britteny Spears on the cover! Look, I can take the umpteenth Gwyneth cover (at least she is classy and stylish, I just get tired of seeing her all the time) but Brittney! Come on now American Vogue, why not just change your name to the Enquirer at that point! Where is the fashion, where are the latest trends? Oh wait, they are dwarfed by celebrities we don't really care about (and many of them with style, get that from their stylists anyway). Anyway, I digress. British Vogue is the best, and definitely worth the $10.00! Get yourself a copy today and see why British Vogue rules!

Mojo Magazine

Description
If you have cool broad taste in music (such as you love the Faces and Primal Scream) this magazine is for you. It's British and I'm not surprised as this is only one of two music magazines that I read on a regular monthly basis (the other one being Classic Rock, which is also a British magazine). I read this from cover to cover every month. A bonus is it also comes with a CD every month. This is pricey but worth it. There is no US magazine that I'm aware of that can even come close to Mojo! I buy this every month (you can find it easily at Borders) but someday I'm going to spluge and get a subscription.

Classic Rock Magazine

Description
Don't let the name fool you. If you love current rock and what I like to call junk rock (think sleazy rock punk mix), as well as "classic rock" this magazine is for you. Every month I faithfully read Mojo and Classic Rock (which both happen to be British music magazines). I don't care for American music magazines....mainly because they cater to what is played on commercial radio and passes for rock. Bleh!! Classic Rock, features a lot of great European and underground rock bands that are just awesome (as well as having articles about great "classic" bands, such as UFO, Thin Lizzy, etc.) I can't begin to tell you how many great band recommendations I have gotten just from the "Sleaze" column in the back: Stereo Junks, Chinatown, Drugdealer Cheerleader, the list just goes on. The great band recommendations I have gotten from the Sleaze column alone for me are worth the price of the magazine. Be warned, if you are a music junkie like me this magazine will make you spend money.

Where do Mavens read about music? In British rock magazines of course! Any magazine that has my beloved Faces on the cover has a special place in my heart! I only buy British rock magazines (Mojo and Classic Rock being the other ones I favor). This is another one I purchase every month. It reminds me a bit of Mojo. It has a good mix of the old along with the new! Yeah its about $10 USD (so is Mojo and Classic Rock) but you also get a free sampler CD every month so it is worth it. Think of it this way, you could spend money on crap like Rolling Stone where you might read one article if you are lucky or Blender where they write reviews (and bad reviews at that) of CD's that are not even released and that they have not even heard (I will never forgive Blender (not that I read it anyway) for the Black Crowes debacle) or you can spend $10 on something great you will read cover to cover and get a CD! You decide!

Music by women who are true Mavens (and a few who are new on the scene and appear to be up and coming Mavens, IMO).
