Stella McCartney Beaded Slingback Sandal

Description

so i showed these to my mom and was like "aren't they so cute" and she was like "you have LOST YOUR MIND".... but still, they totally fulfill my "Stands With A Fist" fantasy... in case you've forgotten, Stands with a Fist is the name of the Indian Chick that Kevin Costner falls for in "Dances with Wolves"- for some reason, rather than have like a Pochohantas fantasy, I think of Stands with a Fist. Plus, Stands with a Fist is such a badass Indian name... in 2nd grade, mine was TigerLily. obviously. (via Neiman Marcus)

Description

So this is one of those accessories that I am totally obsessed with but will not buy because:

a. hello, no necklace is worth 690 dollars unless there is ice involved.

b. i used to bead/make jewelry/whatever you want to call it, so when i see stone necklaces like this and i totally love them (my dad's family is from tejas, and women here wear BIG jewelry like this all year round, whether the global/ethnic trend is in or out.... holla to tejas), i have a moment of sticker shock because there is no way the stones in this necklace cost more than 200 bucks... hello, they aren't sapphires and emeralds here.

c. this is one of those things i think is really tight but i kind of have no idea what i would wear it with cause it is suuuuch a statement piece. like maybe just a black tshirt and frye boots and jeans? still, it is the cutest ethnic jewelry i've seen this season (besides the loads of bangles i will be buying soon enough), so i wanted to add it... Diane von Furstenberg Giraffe Print Wrap Dress

Description

So, for the record, i have an "issue" with animal print, so anything and everything i say on the topic must be taken with a grain of salt. However, I bought this dress like 2 or 3 years ago for my uncle wedding rehearsal dinner, and i still wear it whenever i need to feel fierce... for the last few years, it has been "festive" without being too "omg she's wearing that leopard print dress AGAIN"... and it fits like the typical dvf julian 3/4 length sleeve collarless style... i got it during a phase when dvf was re-issuing vintage prints from Saks, and tho i have nothing but love for her, i WISH she would reissue more of her older more "basic" printed wrap dresses... anyway, definately have been rocking it lately with jack rogers sandals and aviators to embrace the ethnic/tribal/safari chic trend. Diane Von Furstenberg 3/4 length sleeveless dress on YOOX

Description

okay okay, i am sure you are looking at this and being like "but blake, you have THE EXACT same dress!"..... actually, i just got this dress at the Neiman Marcus Last Call Center for $118 bucks last month... don't hate me because i am a super shopper... even though it totally resembles my giraffe one, its "generic" or "non-specific" animal print is actually really cute - it is festive and trendy without causing the response i fear so much (eh, there she is wearing that leopard print dress... again.).... and it is sleeveless, which though that limits the places i can wear it, it is a lot more comfy in warmer climates.... Torn Metallic Tiger Racerback Tank

First to recommend

Description

So i'm kind of torn on these (haha i am so funny. okay sorry. nevermind.) i kind of think they are cute like under a juicy suit or with a leather jacket or something... but then the next day i am like "wtf who wants to wear a tshirt with a rando tiger on it?" but they are pretty popular/audrina's been photographed wearing one (but don't even get me started on her style).... but i thought it should be mentioned since it is like a graphic tee version of this trend... Burberry High waisted skirt

Description

among my many weaknesses, Burberry is a serious one... not only do i love what Christopher Bailey has done with the company, I can also rationalize buying Burberry because though it is a lot more flattering and trendier than it used to be, it is still classic and all the pieces are wardrobe staples. this is a great example of something that can be worn trendy as safari chic, but in a year or two can be worn with a blue blazer to work. great piece at a pretty good price. Matthew Williamson African beaded tank dress

First to recommend

Description

As said on Net-a-porter:

"Matthew Williamson is the ambassador for bohemian chic, producing lavish, ultra feminine wear with ethnic adornment for the jet set. Stay true to his vision and team this cocktail dress with tribal accessories, throw on gladiator sandals and oversized shades for an of-the-moment look."

um yeah. so i can't afford this dress and probably, neither can you.
but it can be easily replicated using any bright, deep earth tone, whether orange, sienna, or a good brown, and a statement necklace and gauzey scarf. (via Net-a-porter)

Nieves Lavi Palm Print Caftan

First to recommend

Description

A great line for ethnic-inspired patterns and clothing is Nieves Lavi... i found their line about 2 years ago, and though i have never actually bought one of the dresses, I turned a bunch of my friends onto them. Their patterns are great (tho the last two seasons haven't been as good as they were when i first discovered them), inspired and influenced by a variety of cultures. Check out their website and look at past seasons- you can definitely see a Moorish-Andalusian tile influence... (via Saks Fifth Avenue)
