Le Lotus Bleu / The Blue Lotus (Tintin)

Description
The Tintin books are beautifully drawn by Hergé. Written for the 9-12 age range, so they're more easily understood than a magazine or newspaper. And they're loads of fun!

Georges Brassens - Master Series Volume 1
First to recommend
Description
Brassens is a folk singer with beautifully enunciated French. Get the lyrics and sing along and you'll find your language skills increase exponentially. Lots of clever wordplay. The music is a bit repetitive as folk music tends to be.

A great foreign film to watch, the story of an introvert misdiagnosed with a heart condition attempts to make the people she loves live a happier life. This movie has romance, comedic relief and is a great film full of human emotion and love.

French in 10 Minutes a Day (10 Minutes a Day Series)
First to recommend
Description
This series is brilliant. It was first under the Sunset label - the people who put out books on how to remodel your bathroom - and it takes the same practical approach to learning a language. You won't be learning any extraneous phrases. You'll first learn to pronounce everything, then basic traveler's phrases, like how get a taxi, order a room at a hotel. There's a tear out menu so you can translate in restaurants. There are flash cards, and stickers you can put up around your house to learn the names of things. You really can learn enough to get around by just putting in 10 minutes a day, starting about a month before you leave. (I did this with the German version, and it really worked!)

"Ingmar Bergman, le cinéaste de l'âme, s'est éteint." (Ingmar Bergman, filmmaker of the soul, is dead.)
I made Le Figaro my splash page. Every day, I read one article out loud to keep up with my French. Newspaper lingo can be rather challenging, so it's a good workout.
"L'angoisse de l'homme face à la mort, l'amour, la solitude et l’« infinie tristesse du monde sans Dieu » ont fondé l’essentiel de son oeuvre."
Ingmar, je t'aime!
