The film that catapulted Wes Anderson's (and Owen Wilson) career as a serious filmmaker. In my opinion, the Criterion release is entirely too late. Better late than never, I guess. Just like other cc releases, it's got lots of extras. What's the kicker though? It's got the original black and white short shot in 1992.

Lars and the Real Girl

It's too bad that this film is, almost, always overshadowed by Juno. You know, they came out around the same time: yada, yada, yada. Even though it didn't get as much love, Lars is certainly as good (if not better than) Juno. I mean, sure, the plot seems a little weird but it makes sense. In reality, the story is one of compassion and love. It's a plot of a town rallying behind someone. It's an endearing story of people who really care.

It was just named best picture of the year by the Los Angeles Film Critic Association (first ever animated feature). I don't know if It was the best, in my book. However, it was certainly one of my favorites. Everyone should see this!
