Karim Rashid Fruit Bowl

First to recommend

Description

Karim Rashid may not eat fruit, but he does design a fetching fruit bowl. This 7 Hills Fruitbowl is a remarkable centerpiece to a countertop or dining table, and its organic feel creates a nice dialog with the fruit it supports. There also appears to be a reference to any odd "city of the seven hills" -- be it Rome, Lisbon, Istanbul, et al -- in here somewhere.

Description

This Lorea Fruit Bowl from Zoocreative is a perfectly contemporary twist on an item that is almost inherently old-fashioned. The bowl's laminated wood is warm, contrasting nicely with the rigid angles. The piece also comes in three different finishes.

Shaman Fruit Bowl

Description

As classy a fruit bowl as you'll find, this piece from Guido Venturini's 2003 collection for Alessi incorporates a tasteful geometric pattern. An interior glass bowl is removable, leaving a stainless steel frame designed for aeration.

Fruit Bowl #8

First to recommend

Description

A radical rethinking of what a fruit bowl does, this Fruit Bowl #8--part of a series from Ron Gilad that does a lot of rethinking of the form--nonetheless gets the job done. The piece is made for a specific kind of round fruit, which makes storage of bananas or grapes a bit of a problem, but that's a minor complaint.

geobubstudios Ribbon Bowl

First to recommend

Description

This ribbon bowl is perfectly suited to fruit. The bowl is unconventional and sculptural, and you can see this working on a surface by itself when the fruit is gone. The open-weave form is by design, allowing for aeration, which may or may not keep your fruit fresher for longer.

ionamaclean Soul bowl

First to recommend

Description

Conventional in form, Soul Bowl's appeal comes primarily in the fetching illustration on its surface. The hardwood bowl is hand-painted and feels just vintage enough. You could probably make this the centerpiece of a dining room table, but the design is subtle enough to comfortably fit on a kitchen counter.

Description

Pretty and organic, this Paduak Square dish frames fruit wonderfully. The dish is hand-turned, giving each piece a unique feel, and a portion of the wood for this project comes from trees that have fallen naturally.

The Lama-ma Fruit Bowl's multi-tiered swirling patterns puts an unorthodox twist on the standard spiral bowl. The iron bowl is initially laser cut and hand-stretched, giving it a very crafty feel.

Basic but compelling in its organic idiosyncrasy, this Fuse Bowl is comprised of polyurethane fibers that create a textured surface. The materials are fully recyclable, making the bowl as intelligent a choice is it is a stylish one.
