Jeff Wall

Description

a retrospective of this canadian photographer's work is on view at moma till may 14th.
the lightbox photos are enormous, and the subject matter is intriguing, disturbing, fascinating. "lightbox" because they're illuminated from behind, like looking at huge kodachrome slides.
the images on this tate/london site aren't the best. check out the link below to the moma's site for a better indication of his work.
way cool!

Description

I especially love the chapter on Broken Windows theory - about how if a window is broken and goes unrepaired, the neighborhood will begin a descent. This was the theory used to turn New York City around. This whole book was a very inspiring read. (via thedelicious)

Du Jazz Dans Le Ravin

First to recommend

3 people recommended this item

Description

if you've never heard serge gainsbourg, this is the album to start with. smooth jazz. clever french lyrics, but you don't need to understand them to appreciate the music.
unlike jacques brel whose intensity demands active listening, serge can play in the background for a romantic pas de deux.
serge used to say that he was only alive because of dirt. his mother went for an abortion and turned around because the place was filthy. vive le dirt!
