Description
We love hiking, and the trails in LA are sometimes completely unknown, yet very accessible. Runyon Canyon is a great example, accessible via the metro red line, and terrific views (on non smoggy days) of the LA basin.

Great book, and not (just) for locals. Maps are quick to access and (when in my car) bookmarked for quicker access than my GPS.

A must-see for a variety of reasons, but especially to get a glimpse of LA back in the day. Now I want to start a list of guides to San Francisco just so I can include Vertigo in that list....

Description
A riveting contemporary film noir starring Russell Crowe before I disliked Russel Crowe. Also with Guy Pearce and Danny DeVito.

Description
A beguiling mystery thriller with a sense of erotic menace as a naive young actress (Naomi Watts) arrives in LA and becomes involved with a woman (Laura Ellen Harring) suffering from amnesia after a car accident. This is a great David Lynch movie which needs to be seen a few times to be understood. (via Rose Poirier)

Description
A brilliant parodic view of the indie hipster's life in Los Angeles for the recent transplant, the native, or anyone looking for a good laugh at our expense. Yes, this city is exactly as insane as this movie makes it out to be.

Description
So your boss is cruel and abusive. So what happens when his whipping boy has had enough. Trouble of the criminal kind. Kevin Spacey is psychotic in this movie. You can't help but cheer on the poor sap who has had enough despite the viciousness of his revenge. (Kevin Spacey, Frank Whaley and Benecio del Toro)
